Default Magpies bid for Torres!

http://www.teamtalk.com/teamtalk/New...088210,00.html

Quote:
Newcastle have made a bid for highly-rated Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres, according to the Spain striker.

The 21-year-old, set to lead the line for his country in this summer's World Cup finals in Germany, is expected to leave the Primera Liga club at the end of the season and he claims Atletico chiefs have informed him of a bid from Newcastle.

"There's always been talk about lots of clubs but I only know about one firm offer and that's from Newcastle because the club confirmed it to me," Torres told The Sun.

"I've never thought about listening to offers from anyone. I consider Atletico my home and I'm happy but you can't always be certain about what may happen."

Torres has scored 11 goals in 26 games this season in La Liga and has also been linked with moves to Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham.

Atletico Madrid striker Fernando Torres has claimed that Newcastle have made an offer for him.

The Spain international, who has scored 11 goals in 26 La Liga games this season, had been linked to a number of top clubs in the January transfer widow amid widespread speculation about his future.

Premiership sides Chelsea and Tottenham have both reportedly been interested in the past, but Torres has now revealed that he is only aware of one firm bid for him.

The 21-year-old, tipped to leave Spain in the summer, says that he knows about the approach because Atletico chiefs recently informed him.

Newcastle's inspirational captain Alan Shearer is set to hang up his boots at the end of this season and the club are sure to be on the look-out for a replacement forward.

"There's always been talk about lots of clubs but I only know about one firm offer and that's from Newcastle because the club confirmed it to me," Torres told The Sun.

Would be pleased with this. We need a solid, established one like Torres to replace Shearer. But I doubt we'll get him, as there are bigger clubs after him.

Torres is already a worldclass striker. He can play regular for every team in the world.

He has confirmed that N'castle want him to Tyneside.

But Torres to The Magpies is unlikely. It will be extreamly difficult to sign him after World Cup. he is wanted by all the big guns in Europe and he'll be very expensive.

But never say never.

It would probably be a good move for him. Hes not that consistent but at Newcastle he'll always play. If he went to somewhere like Chelsea, a few bad performances and he'll find himself on the bench and he'll start crying.

A bit ambitious but its certainly possible if there are no other concrete bids for him.

Very interesting....Torres and Owen...that could work.

I would like Torres at Chelsea, but I think if the club really wanted him we might have already made a firm offer....which we haven't.

But on the other hand...I'm afraid he would turn out to be another Luque.
