Newcastle vs Southampton
Faye comes back into the reckoning after his Nations Cup trip. Shearer (calf), Ameobi (hip) and Emre (hamstring) reported niggles after the Villa game but all are expected to play.
Babayaro is suspended, while Carr, Taylor, and Owen are sidlined. Moore isn't match fit.
NUFC: Given, Harper, Elliott, Ramage, Boumsong, Bramble, Parker, Clark, Emre, Luque, Faye, N'Zogbia, Bowyer, Solano, Dyer, Chopra, Shearer, Ameobi.

It will not be a easy one, but if The Magpies continue their good form, they will kick out those Saints back to the southern part of England.

Southampton are poor, should be a comfortable home win.

indeed yes, but cup is cup. We have seen so much weird results, and I'll never use the sentence "comfortable win" when it comes to Newcastle United, hehe.

At least going by the online play by play, Newcaste is dominating, but not on TV in the US, so don't know for sure.

1-0 after a goal by Dyer.
Newcastle were good the first half. The Saints had a couple of big chances after the break, and N'castle played not well at all.
Credit to N'Zogbia and Dyer for the goal.
Not credit to Elliott and Ramage.

Glad to have won, , but any EPL team would have murdered us on saturday.
A step backwards in GR's reign.
Great to see Dyer playing and scoring, but felt the team was only out to showcase Dyer, and nothing else.
Perfect for him to return, and for the club to do that for him, and it paid off, just everyone else looked out of sorts.

Some of the old problems still there, but you played some really nice stuff at times.
A great deal of positives can be taken imo.

We were pretty bleeding awful for quite a while in the second half. Don't get me wrong, though, we also played some lovely football in the first half. I think we mainly suffered from lacking proper forwards- - excluding Ameobi, who looked to be back to his old self.

Actually I think it was match fitness....your midfield had played about 5 games together and Emre and Dyer have had about 15 games between them all season.
You still have a serious problem in central defence and Emre and Parker haven't got a relationship going yet, but there were a lot of positive things.
N'Zogbia is a top youn player and Dyer looks so much more mature on the field....intelligent use of the ball and movement off it....excellent performance.
