Souness For The Sack?
Quote:
GRAEME SOUNESS could be axed by Newcastle within the next 72 hours.
Toon chairman Freddy Shepherd is seriously considering boss Souey’s future following poor results during the Christmas period.
Shepherd has finally lost patience with Souness, despite the club’s crippling injury list, and Bolton manager Sam Allardyce is the No 1 target to take over at St James'.
|
I'm started to get excited about prospect of Allardyce. I wanted him the last time, and I want him this time.
BRING HIM, FREDDY! (Or Hitzfeld or Le Guen)

And I don't know why the hell he'd ditch Bolton for us right now.

Its time to show Souness the door. Big Sam is off course a better man than Souey, but it will not be easy to bring him to Tyneside from Bolton.
However, N'castle is much bigger and more challenging for Allardyce than Bolton, so a move is not so unlikely.
What about the situation around O'Neill ?

With all this media speculation something is definatley up but then add this to the fact that neither Souness or any of his henchmen went to watch the reserves play last night (when Bobby Robson and Carver never missed a single game). If there was any time to be watching the reserves wouldnt it be in the middle of our current injury crisis.
Also apparently Glen Roader was asked to watch the Smoggies game with Freddie the other day. Take that for what its worth.

Sam blasts Toon job talk
Quote:
SAM Allardyce has slammed press speculation linking him with a move to Newcastle United.
The Reebok boss has angrily distanced himself from reports claiming he has been lined up to replace Graeme Souness at St James' Park.
"I just don't like having my name linked to a club where another manager is in a job," he said.
"It's unfair on me, unfair on this club and unfair on Graeme Souness. It just adds to the pressures."
Allardyce, who is a leading member of the League Managers' Association, added: "You can't stop speculation when there is a vacancy, but speculation before anything has happened is completely out of order."
Despite his protests, Allardyce is still the talk of the Toon, where Souness was reported to have had "crisis talks" with chairman, Freddy Shepherd. But the Newcastle supremo gave no indication that a change of manager was imminent when he insisted it was "business as usual" at St James' Park.
Allardyce, who turned down a chance to manage Newcastle 16 months ago, would be in the frame if Souness were to go, but sources on Tyneside suggest Shepherd is reluctant to go back to managers who have rejected him in the past.
|
I think Allardyce wants the job, he just did what any professional manager would be dismissing reports as we all know he isn't going to publicy say he will join us, he didn't deny commiting to Bolton or ruling out the job. I think we have a decent chance of luring him here if Sheperd were to sack Souness.

Why would Alladce go to Newcastle. Hes worked hard to get Bolton where they areand they are challenging for a Champions League spot. Why leave that for a relegation battle.

Exactly. Newcastle can offer him more funds to play with but little else.

i dont think allardyce will go to newcastle at this point, he has far more chance of getting into europe at bolton, and he has probably the best manager/chairman relationship in the premiership, as well as a group of players that would clearly run themselves into the ground for him.
i think newcastle should get mick mccarthy in lmao

It doesn't seem like the Bolton chairman is willing to let him go anyway.

He shouldn't be. Alladyce is one of the best managers in the Premiership. He can do what Souness can't do and motivate players and make them play as a team. If Souness had El Hadji Diouf he would probably be terrible. Alladyce has turned him into one of the best attacking players in the Premiership.

Yesterday shows just how bad Souness is. Souness leaves Blackburn when they are bottom of the table. Souness joins Newcastle and spends around 50 mill on players from Real Madrid, Deportivo and Chelsea. Hughes signs a striker from the Championship and a guy who can't even make the WELSH national squad. Newcastle are below Blackburn right now and Blackburn go and beat them.

I was thinking that if Utd were going to sack Souness it should be now so that any new man can get a signing or two in before the end of the window.
If not, he should go just before the end of the season so a new man has a few games to evaluate the talent.
with reference to signings; overall pretty good imo...bit expensive, but good....he just cant get them playing and his selection has been poor...Shearer really has had it.
