Newcastle's Owen denies Liverpool return rumours
Quote:
Newcastle United striker Michael Owen has played talk of a return to Liverpool.
Owen said: "I signed a four-year contract with Newcastle and I'm very pleased with that decision.
"When I joined Newcastle we were second bottom and I came prepared for a fight. Fortunately, things have improved since then."

Liverpool wont spend 12.5 mil in the summer on a forward that dosn't fit into their system.

He won't leave either...I expect him to stay for at the very least one full season.

I agree but he won't stay forever if Newcastle don't climb the table quickly...I think if Arsenal came knocking at the end of next season to replace Henry he would go for it.

Agreed...but Owen is hardly a good replacement for Henry.

No, it would mean Arsenal would have to base all their play around their midfield rather than relying on one player to do the jobs of about 4 others...basically play with a normal forward! But I could see it happening, I really could. Provided Owen is supplied correctly and in enough of his abundant reserves of form to get into the right positions with the same eye for goal he's an asset to any team and I would like to see him at a top club before too long...if that turned out to be Newcastle that's fine but if not...for the good of the English game I'd like to see him go elsewhere and have a decent go in the first team.

Excellent points. Would Van Persie be a good partner for Owen though?

It is hard to imagine I admit...the problem is Owen can only really play one way and that's as a goal scorer - Van Persie could be the kind of partner Shearer, Heskey, Rooney etc are for him but it would require more discipline than he needs at the moment with Henry. But like I say Henry was a one off...you won't get too many forwards like him in the next 50 years of the game so changes will have to be made one way or the other. Van Persie is a young enough player to accept that he might need to use his eye for a pass (which is excellent, as is his left peg for delivering them) rather than his eye for the spectacular...or instead of trying to go past players he hasn't got much chance of beating...a la the Chelsea match the other day.

Yeah i tend to agree....It's a shame Arsenal never got Baptista because him and Owen together could have been perfect.
Van Persie still has time to develop into a top support striker that can sit deep or go down the flanks therefore being a perfect service man to a goalscorer.
The reason I don't think Wenger will be interested in Owen is because they have Arturo Lupoli....admittedly not as good as Owen and perhaps never will be, but remember this is Arsene (i can't stand english players) Wenger.
