Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given says they must return to the transfer market next month.
"He (chairman Freddy Shepherd) won't thank me for saying this but we do need to bring in a few more players," he said. "I don't know what funds will be available. We did bring in some quality players and they cost a lot of money. I can't have a go at the chairman for not backing the manager. But perhaps we didn't bring in enough.

"I don't think the squad is big enough. If you do the maths, the squad is smaller (than it was last season)."

well considering they arent in europe they really shouldnt be looking for a bigger squad then 22.

imo they should be looking to buy a top defender (and selling some chaff)...perhaps one more winger or attacker to compliment owen.
