Villa player 'flattered' by Newcastle link
Aston Villa defender/midfielder Gareth Barry says he's 'flattered' to be linked with a move to Newcastle United.
Barry said: "In the summer I was linked with Newcastle. It is flattering because Newcastle are a big club and they've signed big, big names.
"To be linked with them is always flattering. Until you are told anything else, that's all it is.
"There have been stories about the same sort of thing recently but until the manager or chairman says something to me, I'm not thinking about it at all."
He added: "Would a move benefit me? It's one of those. Until it happens, you don't know the answer. If I was to move and started to play the best football of my career, then it would be the right thing to do. Until that happens, I can't answer the question."

I rate him.
He can play in a few positions.
He is a no-nosense player.
Decent passer.
Chips in with his fair share too.
A good signing in my opinion but I don't think he will leave Villa.

Baraja, Joaquin, Allardyce, Nihat and Magnin are one of many that have been linked with the Geordies in January.

"New Shearer" identified
Newcastle United are believed to be tracking Feyenoord hitman Dirk Kuyt - as a long-term replacement for Alan Shearer.
Toon legend Shearer is set to retire at the end of the season and manager Graeme Souness is looking for a targetman.
Holland international Kuyt is high on United's list of transfer targets.
The imposing striker, who has netted 10 goals in 14 games for his club, has indicated he does not want a January move as it could damage his hopes of featuring for his country at this summer's World Cup finals.
But Kuyt is expected to make a big switch at the end of the season - with Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid also though to be potential suitors.

Dirk Kuyt had been great, but as hanuma said, I think he will be bought by a giant.
Had been great to get him to St.James.Park, but money talks.

Keeper eyes loan move
Keeper Steve Harper has revealed he is keen to leave Newcastle on loan - with two Championship clubs ready for a New Year raid.
The Magpies stopper is desperate for a taste of senior action after playing second fiddle to Shay Given on Tyneside.
United boss Graeme Souness has ruled out allowing his deputy to leave ahead of the busy festive period, but Harper believes January will herald his departure.
He told The Journal: "I would love to go on loan. I would love to go for a month and play half-a-dozen games but it just is not possible at the moment.
"With the Christmas period coming up, we have a game every few days and the club don't want to let me go. After Christmas, I will be asking the manager again because I want to go.
"There are a couple of clubs interested and I think I will go to the Championship. I need games to get myself up to speed again. I train every day but I want to go out on loan somewhere to get some games."
