Newcastle manager Sam Allardyce wants Jussi Jasskelainen to replace Shay Given if he leave St James' Park.
The Magpies boss feats his Republic of Ireland goalkeeper is on his way because he is sticking with inform Steve Harper between the posts.
Jaaskelainen has been with Bolton for a decade but is stalling on a new contract and would be tempted by the chance to be reunited with former Reebok Stadium boss Allardyce.
Given's future with the Toon Army could change is he regains the No.1 jersey and he may decide to stay on Tyneside.
But Allardyce knows Jasskelainen is a more than adequate replacement if the Irishman ups sticks.

Premier League Rumour Mill: Newcastle want Jasskelainen | the Daily Mail
Given is a better goalkeeper than Harper, and should be used. Given justed
proved with his performance against Arsenal that he deserves the place - despite Harper not deserving to lose it!

Warning: Don't sign young players from Le Havre!
Sinama and Le Tallec came both from that club.

Newcastle Keen On Riquelme - Report
Newcastle are ready to up the ante to land Juan Roman Riquelme this winter, according to a report in The Sun.
The play-maker has been frozen out of the Villarreal first team ever since falling out with coach Manuel Pellegrini a year ago.
An effort was made to sell him this summer after he returned following his loan spell with Boca Juniors, but nothing materialized due to the lack of a club which satisfied both the Riquelme and Villarreal.
He will most certainly be offloaded this winter, as club president Fernando Roig confirmed a few weeks back: “I think that the situation is going to be solved in December.”
A report in The Sun suggests that Newcastle are keen on landing him, with Sam Allardyce wanting to build his attack around the Argentine.
Big Sam is ready to convince the player by guaranteeing him first team action, and a bid in the region of 12 million euros is expected to be enough to convince Villarreal.
Fluminese are another club that have been linked with Riquelme.

Interesting one to speculate. Riquelme is a great player, who could be a great help creatively, especially with Barton and Geremi behind him to cover. He's completely out of favour at Villareal, disagreement with Pellegrini. His ideal move would be Boca, but disagreements in negotiations between Boca and Villareal stopped that happening.
He was on the verge of signing for Atletico on the brink of the summer window, though, so a move to another club may be welcomed by him.
Thing with Riquelme is, to incorporate him into your team, you must incorporate your team around him. Would Newcastle be willing to do that?

Athletic Bilbao defender Fernando Amorebieta is in the sights of Newcastle United. The Sunday Sun says a United scout ran the rule over the 23-year-old centre-half in Bilbao's 1-0 home win over Espanyol last Sunday.

Newcastle United fear losing defender Steven Taylor in the summer. The Sunday Sun says Taylor is growing ever more frustrated at Newcastle's failure to reopen talks on a new contract. If they do not offer him favourable new terms, United face the prospect of Taylor running down his current deal and being able to talk to other clubs from January onwards as a soon-to-be free agent.

Taylor is overvaluing himself. He's greedy, even though he's not good enough to be greedy. He's been one of the more consistantly error prone players in the team this season but his last five performances has been excellent. Based on that form and that he always gives 100%, I hope they can get the contract sorted.

Newcastle United are chasing Derby County midfielder Giles Barnes. The Times says Toon will renew their attempts to sign Giles Barnes, 19, from Derby County, having failed to agree terms for the midfield player in January.

Newcastle United boss Kevin Keegan is planning a bid for Rangers defender Carlos Cuellar.
The Northern Echo says the Spaniard was named Scottish Premier League Player of the Year this week having only moved to Ibrox from Osasuna last summer. United officials have watched the 26-year-old in recent months and are preparing a bid.

Dennis Wise has been driving Newcastle United's sensational move for Dinamo Zagreb ace Luka Modric, it has been revealed.
The Guardian says Wise, Newcastle's executive director (football), has been the prime mover in a deal which looks poised to become the first to be completed since the former Leeds manager's arrival in late January as head of a new European style scouting system.
Indeed Wise and Tony Jimenez, Newcastle's recruitment supremo, were heavily involved in arranging not only Modric's visit to Newcastle but a meeting that Zdravko Mamic, Dinamo's vice-president, held with club representatives in the city's Malmaison hotel this week. The agent Peter Harrison was also present.
Dinamo are seeking £20 million for the Croatia star, though it's understood Toon are confident of paying significantly less. Personal terms are set to range between £60-80,000-a-week.

Kevin Keegan is launching a £15 million bid to bring Barcelona striker Thierry Henry back to England. The Sun says the Toon manager has told Mike Ashley the French superstar tops his wanted list and the Toon owner is prepared to give Keegan the green light to land his man.
Henry has not settled at Barcelona since his move from Arsenal last June and is seriously considering quitting the Nou Camp at the end of the season.
