I curse those clauses!

I say we need four defenders. A left back, two central defenders and a defender that can play both as left back and right back.

Arsenal has also interest in signing Eto'o...So if you hope Martins to stay then it seems your only hope is that Arsenal will capture the signing of Eto'o.

Olympique Marseille defender Habib Beye insists he hasn't been unsettled by Newcastle United's interest.

Default Aldo Duscher trial

Quote:
NEWCASTLE United are considering signing the man known to fans in Spain as “The Butcher.”

Sam Allardyce has already been linked with adding one Argentina international to his books this week in the form of Manchester United star Gabriel Heinze but has now lined up defensive midfielder Aldo Duscher as his next summer signing.

The 28-year-old is infamous in football after smashing David Beckham’s foot in the build-up to the 2002 World Cup after an X-rated two-footed tackle smashed the England star’s metatarsal when Manchester United played Deportivo la Coruna.

The Argie hardman – who isn’t with his country at the Copa America – arrived on Tyneside today for a trial.

With the player’s contract at Depor now expired it means United will be free to capture the player on a Bosman free transfer if Allardyce is happy with his efforts during his stay on Tyneside.

And if Big Sam does pull off the signing of Duscher it will be considered a major coup for the Magpies.

During his days as a contracted player he attracted intense interest from both Manchester United and Arsenal as they looked to to fill the massive voids in their midfields left by the departures of Roy Keane and Patrick Vieira respectively.

Duscher started his career in his native Argentina with Newells Old Boys before making the move to Portugal to star for Sporting Lisbon. But after just two seasons with the Portuguese giants, he crossed the border to sign for Depor for £9m and he was a big hit in La Liga.

Now, with the player keen to taste life in the Premiership after seven seasons in La Liga with Depor, he is set to link up with his former club mate Albert Luque.

It's good to see that Allardyce is still focused on creating a good squad despite the pressure to sign defenders. Not the best player in the world, but we need a back-up for the dcm position.

Default Big Sam want's french defenders

Quote:
FRANCK Queudrue will have talks with Newcastle United on Monday as Sam Allardyce looks to finally fill the club’s problematic left-back spot. And another Frenchman, Rod Fanni, is in the frame to complete a revamped back four at St James’s Park.

Former Middlesbrough defender Queudrue moved closer to leaving Fulham when the Cottagers signed Paul Konchesky from West Ham United yesterday.

The England international moved across London for an undisclosed fee. Although Konchesky can also play in midfield, he seems certain to be a replacement for the unsettled Queudrue.

The player’s agent, Dominique Six, revealed Newcastle are in pole position to land Queudrue, who left Teesside for the capital a year ago. Another, unnamed club, have approached the 28-year-old but would prefer to make a move in the January transfer window because of financial constraints.

Queudrue’s representative is expecting to meet Lawrie Sanchez on Monday to discuss his client’s situation now Konchesky has signed. After that he is due to speak to Newcastle – on the phone rather than in person.

Like a number of Chris Coleman’s former signings at Craven Cottage, Queudrue does not seem enamoured with Sanchez’s direct style and is agitating for a move. The opportunity to move back to the North-East, where he spent five years with Middlesbrough, would seem an ideal solution.

But Six believes another of the players he represents, defender Fanni, has an even better chance of playing for the Magpies next season. The 26-year-old has been touted around Europe after his club Nice agreed to sell this summer, and Newcastle are keen on the £3.5m-rated player.

Fanni, who has also been linked with the likes of Monaco, Celtic, Genoa and St Etienne, is a prototype Allardyce player. Although 28 of his 33 Ligue 1 starts came at right-back last season, his others came at centre-back, left-back, right midfield and central midfield.

The former Martigues, Lens and Chateauroux player claimed earlier in the season that, as well as Newcastle, Everton and West Ham United have also been in touch but Six was keen to stress Newcastle’s interest when he spoke to The Journal. “All the managers in France love this player,” he said. “I have three clubs in France who want him but I think I can get him a transfer to the Premier League.”

Observers in France have described Fanni as “Lilian Thuram’s heir apparent” in les Bleus’ squad and he is widely expected to earn his first cap next season. His contract runs until 2010.

With Geremi and David Rozehnal already signed, Allardyce could start the season with an all-new back four of Geremi, Fanni, Rozehnal and Queudrue. However, Fanni’s arrival would give Allardyce the option of employing Geremi in midfield, making space for Steven Taylor to partner Rozehnal in the centre once he recovers from his ankle injury.

icNewcastle - Sam wants French defenders

I would take Quedrue as a back-up if we sign another and better left back. Fanni I know nothing about.

Newcastle ask Barcelona for Ronaldinho

Quote:
Newcastle United have asked Barcelona about the availability of Ronaldinho.

The News of the World says the Toon asked about the Brazil star's availability during ongoing discussions with Barcelona over possible transfer targets.

But billionaire owner Mike Ashley was told the Nou Camp playmaker, 27, would cost a staggering £58million. A Magpies source said: "Mike is a billionaire but it remains to be seen whether even he would sanction a deal of that magnitude."

Ashley wants a global superstar to signal his intent after his £130m St James' takeover.
Why even bother...?

The latest player we're getting linked to is Fabio Cannavaro. Also Chelsea are interessted, but why do they need him when they have Carvalho, Terry, Ben Haim and Alex!
