Arsenal turn to Newcastle for Henry replacement

Quote:
Newcastle United face a battle to keep strike-pair Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins away from Arsenal.

With the sale of Thierry Henry to Barcelona now confirmed, the Guardian says part of Arsenal's transfer budget will be thrown at Newcastle for Martins and Owen.

The England striker's buyout clause is for £9m whereas that in Martins's contract is for £13m.

Rozehnal goes to Newcastle - agent

Quote:
Newcastle United are on the verge of a deal for PSG defender David Rozehnal.

Twenty-six-year-old Rozehnal, who played for Czech side Olomouc before moving to Bruges and PSG, has played 34 times for his country.

"The definite agreement was reached - David goes to Newcastle," the player's agent Pavel Zika told idnes.cz.

Eriksson wants Newcastle's Owen at Man City

Quote:
To celebrate his arrival at Manchester City, Sven Goran Eriksson wants to bring Newcastle United striker to Eastlands.

The Daily Express says new owner Thaksin Shinawatra has let the cat out of the bag by revealing they would look to bring in "two strikers and two midfielders" and that "each coach [candidate] has his connections and wants to bring in players who are close to him and who believe in him".

Eriksson is close to Owen and knows he can bring the ex-Liverpool star back to the Northwest for £9 million. The Swede is Thaksin's No1 choice to be new manager at City.
First he have to become manager of City but why should Owen leave for City???Newcastle is a bigger club and have same potensial.Maybe even bigger.

Didn't Owen heavily critise Eriksson after the World Cup? Can't see Owen wanting to play under him again.

Default Alou Diarra on the way?

Quote:
Late news yesterday that Alou Diarra may be the next surprise signing by Sam Allardyce for Newcastle’s midfield. If it does happen there’s at least one good thing in Diarra’s favor – he wants to come to Newcastle.

Sam Allardyce had been rumored to be interested in Diarra in late May along with Portsmouth and Manchester United – but nothing seemed to come of it. Diarra is a 6′2″ tall defensive midfielder and on May 18th it was reported that Diarra wasn’t overly enthusiastic about joining Portsmouth. At that time Lyon and Portsmouth were close to settling on a £5.5 million fee for the French International.

Diarra reportedly preferred a move to a bigger club and the midfielder then ordered his representatives to sound out Sam Allardyce about firming up their initial interest at Newcastle.

That’s some of the short history behind this and now it’s being reported that Newcastle have made a late bid for Diarra and have offered improved terms over Portsmouth for the Lyon star. Portsmouth had already seen off interest from Werder Bremen and Bordeaux.

Reports in France today however are suggesting Newcastle could steal Diarra at the last moment. The very fact that Diarra wants to come to Newcastle is good - if Sam really does want to sign him. It appears that all that remains is for Newcastle to agree a fee with Lyon for the player. It’s interesting to note that Lyon are now managed by former Pompey boss Alain Perrin and apparently Diarra has become disillusioned at Lyon since former manager Gerrard Houllier resigned.

Diarra was at Liverpool for three years from 2002-2005 but never made one senior appearance for the club although he was on loan for much of the time. He went out on loan first to Le Havre where he made 25 appearances with no goals, then to SC Bastia where he made 35 appearances and 4 goals and finally signed for RC Lens where he made 66 appearances with 4 goals. He moved to Olympique Lyonnais in 2006 and will turn 26 in July - he has represented France 12 times.

Alou Diarra On Way To Newcastle from Lyon? | Newcastle United Blog

I'll say get him in. Butt needs a competitor for DM and we need a tall midfielder. I think he has improved since he was in the Premiership last time.

We could then have a central midfield of:
Butt/Diarra and Barton/Emre

Newcastle midfielder Emre has committed himself to the club after rejecting a move away from Tyneside.

The 26-year-old, a £4million signing from Inter Milan two summers ago, had been linked with former club Galatasaray and rivals Fenerbahce in Turkey, while German sides Bayern Munich and Hertha Berlin have also been touted as possible destinations.

However, Emre has signalled his intention to return to Tyneside and fight for his place under new boss Sam Allardyce, the third under whom he will have worked since leaving Italy.

He told the Turkish press: "I am very happy in England and I am not thinking about leaving Newcastle.

"I know all the Turkish newspapers will write my name in their headlines during the transfer window.

"But although I have received serious offers from Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, I want to continue my career in England.

"The Premier League is famous all over the world and that's why I wanted to move there.

"I will stay at Newcastle. I have great respect for Sam Allardyce, the new coach."

Emre's future in England was placed under serious threat last season when he was hit with a racial abuse charge by the Football Association following a stormy encounter at Everton.

However, his club, and in particular, then manager Glenn Roeder, stood by him and he successfully fought against the charge.

Even so, it appeared the Turkey international's days at Newcastle could be numbered as Roeder planned for the new campaign.

But the manager's departure was quickly followed by that of skipper Scott Parker for West Ham, and although Roeder's successor Allardyce has already recruited Joey Barton, news that a player of vast experience is keen to stay and be part of his plans will come as a boost.

The manager will now hope for similar news from strikers Michael Owen and Obafemi Martins, who both have escape clauses in their contracts.

Thierry Henry's exit from Arsenal for Barcelona is certain to add velocity to the transfer merry-go-round and with Arsene Wenger an acknowledged admirer of both players, uncertainty persists at St James' Park

We need more consistency from Emre, but I am glad he is staying, he is the only ball playing midfielder we've got.

Newcastle move for Marseille defender Beye

Quote:
Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce is set to move for Olympique Marseille defender Habib Beye.

The Evening Chronicle says after clinching a deal for PSG stopper Rozehnal, the Toon will go back to France for the current Marseille skipper, the 29-year-old Senegalese Beye, once the defender returns from holiday.

Beye played in both the UEFA Cup games against United in 2004 when Marseille went through thanks to Didier Drogba.

And the season before last he did likewise against Allardyce's Bolton Wanderers in the UEFA Cup.

Beye seems like a far better player than Carr. I also like the fact that he is versatile and can play also in the centre of the defence.

Default Big Sam want's Edmilson

Quote:
NEWCASTLE United have made an ambitious move for Barcelona’s Brazilian defender Edmilson.

That was the word from Spain today – and it’s great news for United fans as Sam Allardyce continues to try to bring new players into St James’ Park, where things are really hotting up both on and off the field.

If Allardyce can pull off the signing of the 30-year-old Brazilian, it will certainly be a feather in the cap of the new United boss.

Edmilson, whose full name is Jose Edmilson Gomes de Moraes, is a free agent, with his contract at the Nou Camp expiring at midnight on Saturday.

And he looks to be the ideal man for United, as he can play both at centre-half and as a defensive midfielder.

Although he was born in Taquaritinga, in Brazil, he has an Italian passport, and this allows him to play as a European player.

His previous clubs are Sao Paulo and Lyon before he moved to Barcelona for £7m.

Since switching to Europe, Edmilson has won a domestic championship in each of his first six seasons – four with Lyon and two with Barcelona.

But Barcelona, of course, were pipped by their great rivals Real Madrid for La Liga a fortnight ago.

Edmilson won his first cap for Brazil in 2000 and was in the side which won the World Cup two years later in Japan and South Korea, but was forced to withdraw from the 2006 competition in Germany because of a knee injury.

Geordie-born Newcastle fan Oliver Fowler is based in Barcelona, and he told me today: “It would be wrong to say that Edmilson going to Newcastle is the talk of the place, because there is only one subject of conservation over here these days – and that is Thierry Henry.

“But it is common knowledge that Edmilson is leaving the Nou Camp, and Newcastle are one of many clubs, both in Europe and South America, who are interested in signing him.

“And as a United supporter, I would love to see him end up at St James’ Park, because he is just what we need.”

Edmilson is not in the Brazil squad which is currently playing in the Copa America in Venezuela, and if he does join United he will be the third Brazilian to come to St James’, following in the footsteps of Mirandinha and Fumaca.

Because Edmilson is a free agent, United do not necessarily have to talk to Barcelona, but if they do I wonder if there is any mileage trying to off-load Albert Luque on to them.

Luque is from Barcelona and would love the chance to play at the Nou Camp.

icNewcastle - Big Sam wants an Ed boy

As far as I know, Edmilson's got a bad knee injury and is out for up to 6 months, so this is problably just poor journalism.
