The fact that Newcastle seem to have a taste for guys who couldn't cut it at Inter, which is generally considered to be Europe's most dysfunctional "big club", speaks volumes.

In fact, the "transfer strategy" is not unfamiliar to fans of the Nerazzurri, the key difference being that Moratti has so much money to throw at the club that he does in fact buy in volume, even if it is usually "value packs" of six international strikers and the like.

Newcastle United Football Club are keen on Philippe Mexes, although Roma are in no mood to offload him.

The Magpies are in desperate need for a new centre-half as their season continues to go from bad to worse, with their home defeat to Sheffield United on Saturday leaving them second from bottom in the league.

It had been reported that manager Glenn Roeder was considering a move in the region of £6.5million for Mexes, yet the Serie A side insist they will keep hold of the French international.

"We don't want to sell Mexes," coach Luciano Spalletti said. "It's possible that someone may want him, but for us he is indispensable. Many rumours do the rounds, especially here, and we are used to that at Roma."

Real Madrid are interested to get Mexes in January too.

Looks like Cassano's career in Madrid is over.

Had been a great player to replace an injured Shola and Owen in January (on loan or transfer)

He has been linked with N'castle too.

Don't think he will start trouble in Newcastle United. Is it one thing you can allow for in Newcastle United - is that you'll play regular - if you avoid injures.

Cassano has been like a schoolchild in Madrid, but the problem is Capello-Cassano.

No doubt that he is an international striker with plenty of experience and still young and talented. Had been a great buy in my opinion.

Newcastle don't need the Cassano Time Bomb at their club.

On loan out the season had not been a problem. He will get time no matter what too, if he not gets injured.

And Cassano will own softy Roeder

Default Luque set for Barca switch?

Quote:
Albert Luque is being linked with a shock move to Barcelona. Spanish sources have told the Sunday Sun that the Catalan giants are considering trying to land Luque on loan in January.

And with no would-be buyers on the horizon for the Spaniard, Newcastle may decide to get him off the wage bill temporarily.

Barca are desperate for attacking cover in the long-term absence of Samuel Eto'o.

And the Cameroon striker is understood to have urged the club to consider signing Luque, who is among his best friends in football.

Barcelona were interested in signing Luque while he was still at Deportivo la Coruna, but were not prepared to match the £9.5 million Newcastle paid for the Spanish international's services.

If so, we should have Gudjohnsen in exchange.

I can't see what need they have for him.It could be that Ezquerro will be offload in January so they are looking for a replacement for him.

Lets loan John Carew in January. He is on the bench for Lyon and had been a better striker than Sibierski and Martins. Owen and Ameobi are out and Rossi back in Manchester.

Carew would have done a good job for us. We need a target man, so he would be a good option.

Damn it, we can't play the rest of the season 06/07 with Sibierski and Martins as strikers. One of them will probably get injured sooner or later too.

Carew, Cassano, Gudjohnsen are some names that should be possible to get. The German, Spanish and Italian market have many players availble too, but its very important that they not bring in a player like Ezuerro. Only a new Luque, perhaps worser.

Don't worry. Ezquerro will never be a Newcastle player. We need two strikers and two defenders in January. A target man, a pacey striker, a left back and a central defender.
