Roeder has said that there is a 50/50 chance that the first signing will be made on Monday. A relative coup, he said, and that after that Tuesday onwards should see the ball rolling elsewhere.

Roeder eyes sensantional swoop?
Quote:
Glenn Roeder is lining up a sensational swoop for Alessandro Del Piero after confirming he is monitoring the situation in Italy.
Roeder is still searching high and low trying to find the two strikers he desperately needs and has admitted he could be ready to take advantage of the match fixing scandal that has rocked Italian football.
Juve are set to spend at least one season in Serie B following their involvement in the scandal and Roeder could be ready to hand Del Piero an escape route away from the troubled Turin outfit.
Juve will be forced to cut costs and a number of top stars are set to move on over the coming weeks. Roeder says he will be in the hunt but fears he may struggle convincing the likes of Del Piero to complete the switch to St James Park.
"Yes we are monitoring the situation in Italy, but we are looking everywhere," the gaffer confirmed. "The biggest concern is we would be taking a player from one of the world's giants who play Champions League football regularly.
"We need to find out whether coming here would appear to be a step down. I need to know whether they have got the motivation and desire to play like they did.
"So I have to tread carefully to see if a player is highly motivated."
|
Not the player he was IMO, and we are unfortunately not the greatest attraction at the moment.

Senegal star in Newcastle link
Newcastle United are reported to be considering a move for Sochaux defender Souleymane Diawara.
The Senegalese star has been a long-term transfer target for Portsmouth, who are already reported to have opened talks with regard to signing the 27-year-old.
Bolton Wanderers and Middlesbrough have also been linked with Diawara in recent months.
The central defender has spent the last three years with Sochaux following a move from Le Havre.

Dean Ashton to Newcastle United?
The search for a new number nine at St James' Park is a serious business and the latest name in the frame for a move to Newcastle United is Dean Ashton.
The 22-year-old is reportedly wanted by manager Glenn Roeder, with an offer of James Milner (rated at £3m) plus a hefty cash sum set to be made.
Ashton certainly fits Roeder's bill of a young, hungry player as the Newcastle manager tries to move the club away from its reputation for further feathering the nest of millionaire 'fat cats' but West Ham are already guaranteed to be playing European football next season and would need a huge offer to part company with a player who cost them over £7m in January and has yet to play 20 games at Upton Park.
Alan Pardew stressed last week that the signing of Carlton Cole did not mean an exit was on the cards for any of his strikers but even if it did, Bobby Zamora would surely be the odd man out.

Difficult to say which names coming to St.James.Park this summer. Newcastle United have always kept this inside the club.
Its very sad that they not have bought in new faces before the very important match against Lillestrøm. This match is perhaps the most important this season for Toon.

Maybe Roeder means Damien Duff?
Was a report in one paper that Newcastle had swooped Duff from under Tottenham's nose...that would be the coup Roeder's talking about.

Mabye this could be a good move. N'Zogbia is still young and he will have to fight for a place in the squad. This might make him a better player in the long term. But £10 mill sounds much, considering we have to buy at least one quality striker.

Ashton would be great for the Magpies...
But Sheperd should bought Ashton when he was in Norwich, because now Ashton's price tag is crazy!

Newcastle want Empoli ace
Quote:
Empoli striker Francesco Tavano is a target for Newcastle - according to the player's agent.
The 27-year-old grabbed 19 goals in 34 appearances for the Serie A side last season, who are believed to be demanding £8.2million for a transfer to happen.
Stefano Guercini, who represents Tavano, told Tuttomercatoweb that Newcastle face competition from Barcelona for his client's signature.
"I can confirm this, even if the two teams have yet to make direct contact with me," he said.
"With Newcastle, he is on their agenda and a meeting with Empoli can happen in a week, but it's too early to talk about negotiations.
"Barcelona, upon request from Frank Rijkaard, is watching him. The Dutch coach wants to consider above all if the player could fit into the tactical outlines of his team.
"Until now, the only direct contact has been with Valencia, that has introduced to Empoli an offer, but fell well short of what they want."

Not that much of a gamble, he's coming into his best years. Although he is a withdrawn type...so not necissarily the best fit for Utd atm.
However, we don't know who Roeder would want to partner him with.

According to the stats he's been fairly prolific in Serie A the past two seasons for an average team.
Not the sort of player you'd expect Roeder to sign though.

The rumours are getting stronger. According to Tavanos agent there has been scheduled a meeting the two clubs. Other big clubs are also after him, but Newcastle are in a pole posision as the player would love to play in the premiership.
