The most famous football icon has been linked with Newcastle today.

The transfer rumour mill cranked into gear on Friday morning when Newcastle chairman Freddy Shepherd was photographed emerging from a London hotel at the same time as Beckham's wife Victoria.

The report stated that Beckham was ushered out of a separate exit, after holding talks with Shepherd.

The news has filtered through the corridors of St James' Park and The Magpies have played it with a typically dead bat.

"The club has always enjoyed a close relationship with Real Madrid and would never do anything to spoil that relationship."

>> Its a good move for the Magpies that they've a good relationship with mighty Madrid. Its look that Sheperd have good contacts in the Spanish capital.

Becks to Tyneside had been the biggest move for the club ever. He is the biggest football icon inside football and he is a great player that I think can fit good in for Newcastle. Because of his right foot. N'castle is horrible on freekicks, corners, etc..

He has one year left in Madrid, and according to some reports, Madrid will not sell him. I think he will play one more season in La Liga and maybe then heading to England and finish for example N'castle United. Becks is a great person with experience from three world cups, European cups, Champions league and playing for the two biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid and Manchester United.

The only chance for getting Beckham is that Capello don't want him and that Becks wants back to England. But the Italian has told that he wants Beckham in the squad and Becks himself loves playing for Real Madrid. Newcastle are not able to win a bid war against Madrid either when it comes to the contract.

Newcastle should go after Real Madrids Carlos Diogo. The most underrated player in the world.

He is a supertalent, but when you have both Cicinho and Salgado as rightbacks, he won't get so much chances.

He is also a great midfielder, both central and rightwinger.

He is actually so good that I hope Capello will start using him more often. If not, send him to Tyneside. Perfect rightback, rightwinger and midfielder. Had been a awesome replacer for Carr.

Come on, fat Fred! Use your connections!

He's better than Cicinho at defending and not far off at going forward either.

Surely he would be a better right back and Cicinho a better winger.

But yes, Newcastle could do well to get him.

Wouldn't mind Diogo. As it has been said: he is very underrated.
Can't see Beckham ever wearing the black and white shirt to be honest.

Default Final move for Duscher

Newcastle are weighing up making a final move for Argentinian midfielder Aldo Duscher.

As revealed in last week's Sunday Sun, United have been offered the 27-year-old, pictured left, by Deportivo La Coruna.

And I understand Eugenio Botas, the agent who brokered Albert Luque's move from Deportivo to Tyneside, has held detailed talks with United about Duscher in recent days.

Although Manchester United and West Ham have expressed interest in him, Duscher has told friends he is sold on a move to Newcastle.

And he is threatening to see out the remaining year of his contract at Deportivo and leave for nothing next summer if they demand too high a price for him now.

Default Barca star in sights

Newcastle United are one of three Premiership clubs on the trail of Barcelona star Javier Saviola.
Arsenal and Bolton Wanderers are also keen on the 24-year-old midfielder, who has been told that he is surplus to requirements with the Catalan giants.

The Argentine's agent Alfredo Cabrera Brizuela has confirmed that he is currently in the process of talking to interested clubs in England.
"There are three English teams interested in Saviola and that's why I am in London," Cabrera told Sky.

"I already had meetings with officials of Panathinaikos and PSV Eindhoven, and now I have to listen to what the English teams want to offer.

"Despite all this, if we don't reach an agreement with any team before July 17, Saviola will present himself at Barcelona for the pre-season work as his transfer belongs to that club."

I heard on the radio the other day that Freddie Shepherd was spotted talking to David Beckham in a London hotel last week.

Becks was shuffled out the back as Fat Fred left through the DOUBLE front doors.

How true is this, and would you Geordies be interested in taking Becks ?

He'd be a top buy if you could get him.

Default Newcastle enter Mellberg race

Quote:
Newcastle United Football Club are reportedly considering a move for Olof Mellberg.

The Swedish international has been made available for Aston Villa for a knockdown £2million, and Spanish side Levante have already registered their interest.

However, rumours have begun to circulate that the Magpies may look to add the 28-year-old to their squad for the coming season as they aim to bolster their defensive options.

With Jean-Alain Boumsong primed for a return to France Glenn Roeder knows he must find reinforcements, and Mellberg could be an ideal acquisition.

He fits what Roeder says he wants, a proven Premiership player who won't cost the world in wages and isn't a cu*t.
Also if we did get him for 2 million and Monaco buy Boumsong for 3 then thas a million towards another player. I'm all for it, he's a good player, very well thought of by the Villa. he had a nightmare of a season last year but generally he is quite injury free.
But on the other hand, I doubt he will be our first signing( if we sign anyone in the first place).
