Default Emre injury blow

Newcastle midfielder Emre suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury in the defeat to Wigan and could be facing another spell on the sidelines.

The Turkish international has only just returned to the first team after recovering from the problem, but the injury curse struck once again after he limped out of the 1-0 Carling Cup defeat at the JJB Stadium.

Boss Graeme Souness is waiting to hear the full extent of the damage, but even if the problem is not serious the player is almost certain to miss this Saturday's game against Aston Villa.

The news comes as a huge blow to the Magpies manager, who is under real pressure after crashing out of the competition.

Default Owen still missing

Newcastle will be without Michael Owen once again for tomorrow’s must win Barclay’s Premiership clash with Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old England striker remains sidelined with a groin injury which has kept him out of the club’s last three games, although he could be fit for next weekend’s visit of Arsenal.

Default Charles Out For Three Weeks

Newcastle United have been rocked by the news that Charles N'Zogbia's season has ground to a cruel halt after a freak training ground accident.

The young French starlet is believed to have been accidently stood on in training yesterday and required surgery on his hand after suffering metacarpal damage.

N'Zogbia had pins inserted to his battered hand after training and may miss three weeks of the campaign, meaning hope of being involved in the Christmas fixtures is in doubt.

Default Double Boost

Graeme Souness believes his luck as Newcastle manager might be changing for the better as he revealed that both Michael Owen and Steven Taylor are set to return against Arsenal next weekend.

Owen has missed United's last four games with a groin strain, while Taylor has been forced out of the side for three weeks with a shoulder problem as the Magpies struggled to cope with their absence.

But with both players itching to return to the fray against the Gunners, Souness - despite the continued problems with Kieron Dyer - feels there is finally some light at the end of what has been a very long and very dark injury tunnel.

"We're very hopeful of having Michael Owen back against Arsenal and the other good news is that Steven Taylor could well be back as well," said a manager who remains upbeat despite the storm clouds which have been building up around St James's Park since the 1-0 defeat at Everton just over a week ago.

"We're very hopeful about him. He's a young boy and he's a quick healer, so it's a case of fingers crossed, but as I've said, we're positive about it. That would be a timely boost for us ahead of what is going to be another tough game.

"It's been a difficult balancing act for me as a manager. I want to be able to put out my strongest side, but I don't want to rush players back too quickly and risk seeing them ruled out for another four or five weeks. At the moment, though, we think both should be all right for the weekend."

Default Dyer suffers further injury blow

Newcastle midfielder Kieron Dyer has suffered a setback in his long-standing battle against injury.
The 26-year-old England midfielder suffered a hamstring strain, dashing his hopes of returning against Arsenal.

Dyer has spent time at the British Olympic Medical Centre to try to cure the muscle problem which has troubled him for two years.

A BOMC spokesman said: "He settled in well but felt a twinge in his hamstring when he was doing some work."

Dyer was scheduled to return to training with Newcastle last Monday, but following his latest setback, he will remain at the BOMC in Harrow.

He has started just two Premiership matches this season, and has been niggled with a series of injuries since his £6m move from Ipswich in 1999.

His recovery from injury was also hindered by a mystery illness.

Default Taylor knackered again

Quote:
Steven Taylor's hopes of making a prompt return to Premiership action this weekend have been dashed after the England Under-21 international aggravated his injured shoulder during a routine training session.

Although medical experts predicted Taylor would be sidelined until the middle of January having dislocated his shoulder while on international duty last month, Souness was confident the teenager would be back in action before Christmas. At the start of this week, the United boss told The Journal that, having made good progress in his rehabilitation, Taylor could be in contention to face Arsenal at St James's Park. That the 19-year-old has since suffered a setback will have come as a major blow.

Great isn't it - having spoken to 2 independent medical experts who both advised he would be out until the New Year, Graeme and the boys decide that as he's a "young fit lad" and of course a "proper player" then he can be brought back in half the time - it really is quite unbelievable.

Makes it worse that shoulder injuries are notorious for returning if you don't get them fixed right - could be seriously messing with the lad's career here.

Default Dyer speaks out about his hell

Quote:
Newcastle United midfielder Kieron Dyer has revealed the extent of his depression following his fitness problems this season.

The England international is finally on the comeback trail after being plagued by injury and illness, but has confessed that his latest setback was almost too much for him to cope with.

"I had been suicidal after the West Brom game in October when I broke down again. I was at an all-time low," he told local radio station Magic 1152.

"That is when the physios, the manager and my family stepped in and kept supporting me, which has got me through. They have been magnificent."

Dyer has been sidelined with a hamstring problem, while also receiving treatment for a mystery illness which has contributed to his lack of fitness.

"I hope to be back sooner rather than later. The team have been struggling and I know I can help when I'm fit," he said.

"I have obviously had a medical problem that the fans didn't know about.

"They just kept seeing me break and they are frustrated by it, but they didn't know the full story.

"Now they do. It was a blessing that the club issued a statement so that everyone now has an explanation to why I kept breaking down. It has taken the pressure off."

No date has yet been set for the 26-year-old's return, with doctors at the British Olympic Medical Centre still trying to help him overcome his problems.

good to see he's getting better, and hopefully sorting out his long term problem. but "feeling suicidal", come on, what wages is he on again?

Default No Taylor Op Needed

Quote:
Newcastle United have been advised that Steven Taylor does not need an operation on his troublesome shoulder.

And this means that the young defender is still on course to get back into a United shirt in the game with Liverpool at Anfield on Boxing Day.

Taylor had another date with his specialist this week amid fears that he could need an operation which would keep him out for another couple of months.

Good news indeed. Can't wait to see Tails back in action, seems so long ago since he last played for us.

Default Taylor out for 3 months

Quote:
Newcastle look to have lost defensive starlet Steven Taylor for three months.

Taylor had just overcome a shoulder complaint when he was thrown back into the fray at Liverpool on Boxing Day.

However, the gamble backfired as Taylor came off injured after just half an hour and he will now require surgery.

"He will be out for up to three more months," Newcastle manager Graeme Souness explained.

"We were hoping to get away with it but it didn't happen.

"Our worst fears are that he will be out for 12 weeks. He will need an operation to tighten it up."

Why the hell did he start him ???

Default Dyer - Month. Emre misses Christmas Schedule

Quote:
Newcastle boss Graeme Souness feels Kieron Dyer is a month away from returning to action, while Emre will not be rushed back.

Dyer has been plagued by injury problems for the last couple of seasons and suffered a fresh setback recently, while Turkish star Emre damaged his hamstring once again in December and is struggling for fitness.

Souness feels there is light at the end of the tunnel for Dyer, but does not expect him to be gracing the Newcastle engine room for another month.

"I got a call from someone who knows him saying he's feeling great, because I gave him a week off and he's been in Ipswich," said Souness.

"But Kieron, I would imagine, is a month away. If everything went to plan, Kieron would be somewhere in the region of three to four weeks away before you would see him in a strip."

Turkish international Emre has returned to his native land to seek out a cure for his injury and is not due back on Tyneside until next week.

"He went to Turkey to see a specialist that he has great faith in and Emre will be back here on Monday," added the Scottish tactician.

"With lots of foreigners, you know that when they come to this country and pick up an injury they have had before they will look to be treated by someone who has treated them before.

"It's not a unique situation in football."

So. Dyer out for another month. It's laughable. Come the end of January, we'll be saying another month.

And Emre comes back to Newcastle from Turkey on Monday. Following a Chronicle Christmas Eve article saying how much he was looking forward to the Christmas fixtures. Turns out he hasn't played in any!

Typical typical Newcastle.
