Default Solano: I won't be going to Barca

Nolberto Solano insists rumours of him heading to Barcelona in exchange for Patrick Kluivert will not come to fruition.
Newcastle United's long-standing pursuit of Dutch forward Kluivert has prompted speculation that Solano will be offered as bait.

But the Peruvian winger does not anticipate the deal will even get off the ground due to Kluivert's reluctance to move to St James' Park.

Solano admits he is used to the uncertainty surrounding his future on Tyneside but he does not envisage any switch to Camp Nou being on the horizon.

"I've listened to the rumours saying Barcelona want me but nobody has spoken to me about it," Solano told Peruvian radio programme 'Show del Veco'.

"I know there is talk that I would go to Barcelona as payment for the transfer of Kluivert but the problem is that he doesn't want to come.

"For that reason, I'm under no illusions. People talked about me going to Real Madrid and nothing happened."

The 28-year-old has endured a mixed season with The Magpies and was recently dropped from the squad against Middlesbrough as an internal punishment.

Solano, though, brushed aside any notion of a rift with manager Sir Bobby Robson and declared his intent to secure a regular place on the right flank.

"I have a good contract with Newcastle and I want to respect it," he added.

"I don't have any problems with Sir Bobby Robson - we are on good speaking terms.

"All I want to do is demonstrate to him that I still have something to offer here."
