Agreeing a fee doesn't mean getting the player.

At last someone that agrees that owen isn't all that good. IMO since he lost a yard of pace he has become just a goal poacher who needs a chance made for him (basically a crap version of Ruud).

read the international section and you will agree more methinks

put simply...owen is nowhere near the player that won the ballon d'or and the fa cup singlehandedly.

Russel, there are more than a few of us that think Owen is now over-rated, in fact I have yet to come across a bod in here that thinks other-wise...

It is believed the initial transfer fee would be £12 million with the price rising as Owen's career progressed.

****ing sick that we must pay at least £ 4m more than Real paid for him last season.

Yes ,it's all up to him. If he scores some 15 goals he may find a better club that wants him.

>> Owen become more expensive now because he has a longer contract with Real Madrid. He has contract to 2008, that's why Madrid can demand £5-6 million more for him.

A other thing;

N'castle had not enough money to pay Luque, but suddenly they make a £17 million bid for Michael Owen. So is this bid real? Or is it Shep who knows that Owen not will sign for Magpies? I will follow this transfer close.

Albert Luque is not Michael Owen, and i guess that Fat Freddie inject the cash who needs to get Owen.

Newcastle with Owen in the team would be a huge rise to next levels...

Shearer - Owen

I unfortunately doubt it. We cant create shi't at the moment and owen isnt exactly a player who can create chances, he just puts them away, but we dont have a zidane to give him the opportunities.

Ok, my anti owen rants have so far been confined to threads in the man utd forum when he has been linked to us. You will find a number of pro owen comments in there.

£18m is a joke.

How will he play at Newcastle - running off Shearer who will hold the ball up? Do you have the players to create chances for him consistently? I've never liked Newcastle, but I honestly think they have a shocking side at the moment - and going on this season thus far it's not been strikers that have been the problem, it's been players creating chances for the strikers. So will Owen make a difference?

The only hope i have in terms of your post ben (which i do agree with), is that emre may be the player we are looking for to add sparkle to the midfield, and maybe he will make the difference. But at the same time, we still have an awful manager who plays one dimensional football that has made us useless.

I've not seen much of Emre so maybe he can add creativity to the side, but I still think you'll need more than 1 player to create chances. Sure, Jenas and Dyer have their moments - all your midfielders do I suppose - but I don't believe either are consistent enough at the moment to create enough chances. Time will tell I suppose.
