well carr is an excellent right back imo......baba could be but isnt ever going to find "peak performance permanently"....taylor will be a superb centre half, but if you were really going to push on this season i think a better player than moore is required.
we shall see....however i think a back line of carr, boumsong, taylor and baba will be good enough against all but 4/5 teams.

carr was poor as well last season, but i hope he finds form which he has done this pre-season, as i always rated him at spurs, and the same with babayaro.
Its just ive had to base my opinions on them for last season which was a disaster, other than taylor and bramble coming through well, and the full backs were very poor at times. I would prefer we had a new first choice centre back, but i think if bramble/taylor can stay fit and compete to partner boumsong, it may be a very accomplished partnership by the end of the season. I would like to think carr/baba could find good form but after last season, i would have replaced both of them (definately baba simply because of his injuries).
A lot depends on the midfield tho, as it did look strong today and parker provide stupidly good cover for the back four, so hopefully the improvements in midfield will stop the goals as well, we were just unlucky today, and i fuly thought we could keep a clean sheet.

the full backs form for last season can be attributed to the fact that the midfielders werent helping them and the fact that they were new.....put that together and your ****ed.

It was a lot to do with that, but at times, carr was needlessly out of position and gave away possesion and fouled people. But as you say, if he finds form, with our new midfield we may have a decent back four.

Still, he will come up against players who are a lot worse than pires this season.

I thought the defence performed very well and is not a concern for me aqt the moment, although it could do with strengthening, based on the weekends performance, it is imperative we get a striker, and i will gladly let the defence be and concentrate full on getting at least one forward signed.

In many ways I believe Arsenal wouldnt have struggled so much to score if Newcastle had 11 men the whole game. The only thing the sending off did was force you to defend the whole game. Unlucky though, I hope the red card gets recinded. On that performance you should have a much better season this time around.
