i was dissapointed to hear souness say that 'robbie keane is not the type of striker we're after'....well by all means get another target man, but surely a fast, skilful striker with premiership/international experience in abundance is exactly what newcastle need.
keane and shearer supported by dyer with a central midfield of jenas/parker/emre....hot!

Keane had been a great sign for The Magpies!
Perhaps Souey said it because he don't had a chance to bring him to tyneside.

good point...but that is questionable.
i think he is looking for a replacement, not a partner, for shearer....and of course r. keane is not that....however only a select group of strikers could be anywhere near that.

that is the underlining point exactly, that keane is not a replacment for shearer, but the likes of anelka and viduka (although i dont rate him) are, and if we buy keane we still need another striker to partner him and take on shearers mantle, which, if we buy anelka say, we could if worse comes to worse get away with just buying him as he has that class to partner many types of player, whereas if we buy keane, a partnership with dyer would not be effective.

I think he would be good, he just never scored enough last season regularly even though he played very well and showed a full range of attributes, i do think it may have been worth putting in a cheap bid for ellington, simply because he can score goals, and i think he can emulate johnson, but as you've said hanny, we desparately need the replacement for shearer, for this season and to take over from him once he retires.

on one hand its a hard thing to do....but on the other (as we have already thought out) everything else is virtually sorted.
just bring in a quality goal scorer.

Great, so with 4 days to go til the arsenal game on sunday, our interest in owen and anelka has gone in the matter of a day, leaving shola and chopra to lead the line against arsenal. I stupidly ****ed off at the moment over the complete lack of any transfer activity for a team who has a more desparate striker situation than anyone else, and the board and manager dont seem to give a ****. With the collapse of the coco move, we need three player to have any chance of pulling off a respectable loss to arsenal, but at the moment, elliot will be left back and shola chopra should start.
It just really ****es me off soo much, when these problems were supposedly being fixed in may, when we were supposedly attracting the big names, and supposedly after 5 first class first team players, but so far we have spent 10 million on 2 good midfielders (position needing the least strengthening), then a free transfer on a crap defender where we needed quality, then lee clarke on a free transfer for no apparent reason. Its hard to know who to blame the manager or the board, but its complete bull****, that we've had 2 months to buy at least one new striker, and after making out that we were close to signing at least one of a possible three, we are in a worse situation than ever now. We all know freddy is a **** when it comes to transfers, but souness has been incompetent in the transfer market, and after people saying for us to wait until he has made his signings before criticizing, we should have by now at least covered the obvious inadequacies in the team, but he hasn't, and he is too much of a **** manager to be able to cover up these problems on the pitch as he has no tactical skills.
I was always resigned to defeat against arsenal, but after barking up the wrong tree by chasing players who aren't coming, for the past month, we now have little hope of buying anyone at this late stage who can replace big al, or even just be a good partner. After all the effort put into these transfers its just been a waste of time, and i doubt we will buy anyone worth having for the coming season, before the transfer window closes. I just hope fad fred can be consistent and sack the manager three games into the season after a few dodgy results, as i really dont have any hope in souness now as he has been given a chance to show he can sign the players to make us better, but he hasnt.

I can't believe you aren't going to sign a striker cos even I (who doesn't take much interest in newscastle ) can see you're fcuked unless you get another (couple of) striker(s).

'king hell, forgot about that as well, so chopra is being thrwon into the deep end. It just annoys me that before the start of the season, we needed a striker more than any other position including defence, and we've done nothing about it, but we've wasted time over it, making it harder now, to find two players who are going to score the goals.

My guess is that Souness will play Dyer upfront by himself, and put on Chopra if necessary (I'm sure it will be).
This striker situation is riddiculos.Souness and Faty, get your head out of your asses!!!

exactly, thats why i dont expect a signing by the end of the window, because boa morte/anelka/owen were obviously strikers souness thought were right for the team, but he has wasted time trying to buy them, and has left us with no time to consider buying a player that is right for the club.
