We do need someone along the lines of ashton, who does have the potential to be very good, as he has all the attributes of a great striker with few weaknesses. I'd just prefer someone who is a bit more proven than him. I cant imagine norwich letting him go cheaply, so i'd prefer it if we spent a bit extra money on someone who is guaranteed to do the job. Although, i suppose if we buy a young player like ashton (who i think will become very good if given the right coaching), he will try to earn his shirt rather than turn up just for the money (kluivert), and i think we have been drawn into that a few times, as we do offer high wages to get players.

Had been with great with Saviola ( one year on loan ) or buy him. I'm agree with you, Mat, but the problem is to find a striker like that for the aviable money and who wants to wear the white and black kit. I hope some new faces will be ready at the end of the month.

I seriously hope so too. We need to aim high to get a good striker, but there are chances that if we find a viable option for a good price, we will face competition, either from the usual clubs ie everton, spurs, villa, boro, or if we find a star, then possibly competition from elite clubs, and then it may come down to wage demands, and i'd prefer a cheaper player who is going to give 100% to win, not just to get even richer.

Just out of curiosity, what is the reputation of newcastle in norway, because, for many players i'm sure they will look at a club on face value, and the fact we only finished fourteenth, may deter players from coming, or do you get a different iimpression, in terms of passionate supporters, ambitious and really desparate for silverware, as other than money, champions league football is what most players will aim for, and its something we cant provide.

In Norway, Newcastle United is a big club with all facilities to be a winning club. The city, the stadium and the supporters. Its not impossible for The Magpies to take some silver in the nearer future, and I think the norwegians knows that. Newcastle is a popular club in Norway and Scandinavia with plenty of fans. I think just ManUtd, Liverpool and Arse are bigger. Most of the players want off course to play in the CL, but I think espesially here in Norway, that great talents and player had signed for Newcastle United, if the offer was there. Magpies have culture and traditions and just need some few thing again to become a great football power.

If the team can perform, it is easily good enough for 5th imo, and has enough quality to put up a challenge for 4th. Even in defence, if we can get the couple signings in, we will then have strength in depth as well, so we are well covered in many areas on the pitch. I just hope souness can get the best out of the players, which is my biggest worry, but i think the players he has bought (and is interested in) are proven performers and we can probably get them performing well.

Owen is linked with us again, but Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal is also interested. That we don't playing in CL doesn't make it easier to sign him.
I think we have money to sign him, but the question is, will Michael Owen play for The Magpies?

I doubt it, but he will beguarateed star billig at the club, whereas he is 5th choice at madrid, if no-one else comes in you never know, he is the type of player that will work hard and is a good professional who will want to play all season which is what we will guarantee, but at the same time, who would want to play for us, the most publisised team in the league for the wrong reasons, with a crap manager

Actually, Robinho and Baptista is also midfielders, and I think both of then will play there. Also, Madrid have three strikers. Raul, Ronaldo and Owen. Owen will always sub with Ronaldo/Raul or some of them will get injured through a long season.
I think Owen will stay in Madrid.
We should have try signing Pandiani, but I guess its too late. Something must happen soon. There are plenty of good strikers in Germany, France, England, Spain and Italy.

Shearer is only good with someone to do his running (ie bellamy), and if someone can cross the ball. Last season no-one other than robert could cross and he was dropped, and fredy got rid of nobby the season before leaving no-one. It may be fool's hope, but he still has the right foot and his head to put away the goals, he just needs someone to create the chances for him
