Robert picks up award + NE Awards

It wasn't the "Newcastle United Award Show" we've come to expect over recent years, but the North East Football Awards saw Laurent Robert pick up the "Goal Of The Season" award, as he took a one-two. His second goal in United's 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur last December beat his first goal!

Strongly tipped for the "Player of the Season" award, Alan Shearer and Shay Given had to sit it out as the award went to Middlesbrough captain Gareth Southgate.
Sunderland striker Kevin Kyle was named "Young Player of the Year", beating a whole host of Toon nominations, and his team-mate Julio Arca won the "Football League Player of the Year" award. Obviously an event we didn't qualify for.

Hartlepool United goalkeeper Jim Provett took the "Save of the Season" award.

LAURENT Robert was honoured at the Prince's Trust North East Football Awards on Monday evening for his stunning goal against Tottenham last season.

Robert's goal, a long range drive which was his second strike in the 4-0 win, was nominated as Goal of the Season by the judges.

Middlesbrough skipper Gareth Southgate was named as the Player of the Season after captaining the Teesside outfit to Carling Cup success, while Sunderland's Julio Arca was the Football league Player of the season and Jim Provett from Hartlepool won Save of the Season.
