You have to remember Souness managed BLACKBURN and now look at the squad at NEWCASTLE there is a VERY big difference from Stead, Short, Emerton, Tugay and then the likes of Nicky Butt, Jenas, Shearer and Kluivert. I don't know what to think at the moment, I hope we don't get a squad full of Scottish players and that we don't become Leeds Part 2

Im actually excited about GS, he will definetly improve the development of JJ and Titus, he has THE best young players around to work with. BUT- I hope Fat Fred keeps the same level of involvement in transfers, since he stepped in there have been no more Vianas, LuaLuas + Corts, he refused to pay £4m for Kleberson (Bobby recomended) and opted for Bowyer instead. Refused to pay £8m for Beattie and got Kluivert for nowt. 2-0 Fred!

That is a good point, but managers are appointed to make the transfers and although Cort and co were terrible, the chairman shold give support to the manager and not go behind his back or control the transfer targets himself. Hopefullt Souness is strong enogh not to put up with it, bt he has made some poor bys in his time, just hope that he can do well.

Cort was bought by accident......
Source... www.Football-Rumours.com
September 2 2002 - Bobby Robson: The £7.5 Million Pound Mistake
In the early days of managing Newcastle, Bobby Robson saw Jason Euell playing upfront for Wimbledon and thought he was a fantastic player.
But Bobby Robson is not very good with names and tells his scout to make enquires about the young black lad, England under 21 player, who plays upfront for Wimbledon.
The only problem was that Wimbledon had moved Jason Euell back to midfield and put Carl Cort up front for Wimbledon, who is also a young black lad and England under 21 player.
So the scout comes back and asks Bobby Robson if he wants to put a bid in for Carl Cort and Bobby Robson says yes put a £7.5 million pound bid for the young black lad, England under 21 player, who plays upfront for Wimbledon.
Now Jason Euell is arguably a much better player than Carl Cort and maybe worth £7.5 million pounds but Carl Cort is not worth that much, so when Wimbledon received a bid of £7.5 million pounds for Carl Cort, they could not sign fast enough.
So after a short while, Bobby Robson finds out that he has bought the wrong player but hasn't let it out yet.

Bowyer has to bee used in the middle. Its obvious where he is best, he adds a different dimension to our team in the form of goals. He makes the same runs as Dyer but with an end product. He adds agression to the midfield as well and I see him as our best midfielder. He is our sort of gerrard, allround player and he proved that on Saturday. He has to be our number one centre midfielder alongside Butt.

Very early days for Souness, but I've been impressed with his measured words so far. I think he realises that this job is his last crack at the big time and for some reason I am optimistic about the rest of the season.

I have a good feeling lately about Souness. I think if we bring 2 defenders to the club in January then we should be in Champions League next year.
