Celtic reject Balde offer
Celtic have turned down a £5m bid from Newcastle United for Guinea defender Bobo Balde, BBC Sport believes.
The 28-year-old joined Celtic from Toulouse on a four-year deal in 2001 and the Glasgow club have yet to tie him to a promised contract extension.
Balde has become a cult hero with the Celtic support and the Scottish champions would be loathe to lose him.
Newcastle have also had an approach rejected for Rangers defender Jean-Alain Boumsong.
Newcastle manager Bobby Robson is looking to strengthen his defence and has cash to spend after selling Jonathan Woodgate to Real Madrid for £13.4m.

Pretty obvious really Balde is a hero @ Celtic and very important player for them
