They are still trying to attract the South American community to their games. Bruce Arena and the people running the Red Bulls are real idiots. They went down this road before and nobody came to their games. He should bring in some Portuguese and Italian players and I bet you will see an increase attention to the team. Bring in Mr. Figo because he can leave his contract with the Saudi club after 6 months....

I agree, the best days was with the Donadoni

european players are the way to go, they didn't win anything with the Ecuadorian, Colombia connection

go after Figo and Micolli and they will be champions

beside the superliga new competion, they should bring back the old Trans Atlantic cup

portuguese fans in the Newark area now that the NY Red Bulls/Metrostars
they suck, they boycotting the games for the last 5 years

and I wouldn't be surprise if the italian community who by the way think like we do are doing the same

I still remember when Tucha Gift shop and the ex Casa dos Presentes would sell between 5,000 to 10,000 tickets a game to the portuguese and brazilian community to see players like Pele, Carlos Alberto and portuguese fast speedest Seninho

Cosmos paid big money for Seninho at the time one our best wingers with Porto and the national team,
he score two goals against Manchester United on the Porto win on the CL qualification, at Manchester United, the next day he was on a fly to the Cosmos

Everytime I go to Iron Bound I will past the construction site for the Red Bulls new stadium. It's probably walking distance from Ferry Street. Bruce Arena must be a real hater of Portuguese soccer for not trying to sign a player like Figo...They need to sign a talented Portuguese or Brazilian player...He needs to do the right thing...

you got it, you can basically walk from Ferry St. the Portuguese, Brazilian, community

once you go over the Jackson st bridge you enter Harrison, and the stadium is on the right

Harrison Penn station on the left,
something the Meadowlands was lack of

I agree that they are idiots but you don't bring in Portuguese and Italian players just because of the community, you bring in the best talent regardless. IMO I think you will see RBNY go after Real Madrid's aging Brazilions, Ronaldo and Roberto Carlos.

From a business standpoint it is smart to bring Portuguese and Italian players to areas that contain Portuguese and Italian residents and football supporters. They will be attracted to the players they have followed abroad and it will generate money because they're going to go see the matches and maybe buy the merchandise.

I know what it is and IMO if it comes down to an equal talent then thats fine but just to get players because of what country there background is from is nothing diffrent than racism. I don't want people to come to games just because they's have the same background, if it's a good product they should come plain and simple, I don't want them if they are only going to come if they have someone from there old country.

nobody talk about racism, it was all about his comments on Figo, special when his having another great season

you can't have a stadium with our walking distance and think we not going to have some comments

I just don't like the fact that some people would only come to a game because there are Portuguese and Italian players on the roster rather than coming and supporting a team thats with in walking distance. To me it's that samething that the non-soccer fans in this country do with soccer by not giving it a chance. I just want to see them put the best team they can out there regardless of what there color of there skin is or where there lineage is.

The point is that you shouldn't cater to any specific crowd, if they have to kiss ass to get them in the seats then they aren't the fans that you want.

From a player's POV, I would want to find a club that has a community with a similar ethnic background so they can make an easier transition to assimilate.

But getting a player for his ethnicity is nothing more than to whore yourself out.

I totally agree but this two guys at this moment, will only be good enough to bring the water bottle for a player like Figo.

If Figo was brazilian he would have won 5 Fifa world player awards

Beckham is not the best player, he was seating with the Real Madrid team, but I understand how important he is to the MLS
