NEW JERSEY - Parsippany S.C. and Red Bull New York left little doubt to the competitive nature of the Super-20 League in a May 31 battle that ended late, 1-0 in favor of New Jersey. With ten minutes remaining and New York pushing for the late goal, Parsippany caught the Red Bulls’ with a sharp counter attack that began with the foot of defender Ethan Mulligan.
Mulligan’s outlet pass found forward Giovanni Esposito. Esposito quickly continued the combination play to the flank where creative midfielder Pete Montalvo beat the remaining Red Bull defenders with a cross finished by Jason Soto.
“I was really excited to score a big win over Red Bull New York in our first Super-20 match,” said Parsippany Director of Coaching Brian Sentowski. “Red Bull has the ability to pull in a lot of outside talent with the Red Bull logo. I consider them a major contender for the inaugural Super-20 League title.”
“Our goal is to take this team to the North American Finals at Seacoast United,” said Sentowski. “We feel good about the team we have. We were able to bring in standout players from our U18’s and 19’s and sprinkle in some new talent. They’re just beginning to get accustomed playing with one another.”
Parsippany looks to continue their strong defensive play when they host City Islanders Academy on Saturday, June 10 at Reynolds Soccer Complex. Kickoff for the game is set for 4:00 p.m.
“Super-20 League is about the most competitive soccer you’ll find at the youth level,” said Sentowski. “There’s no room for error with an eight game season. We’re dealing with players that possess a great knowledge of the game. This is talent on the brink of their collegiate years. You know you are going to see some great soccer each week.”
