GAVEN WAITS HIS TURN

MetroStars midfielder Eddie Gaven might be a long shot to make the 2006 World Cup roster, but he's definitely in Bruce Arena's plans the next few years.

The U.S. national team coach has called the 17-year-old New Jersey native into three camps and has been impressed.

"He continues to be a player with a lot of promise and I'm hopeful he gets an opportunity during our qualifying to show it as well," Arena said via conference call last week. "He's a talented kid and it makes sense with some of our younger players to recognize how they've played in the league and introduce them with the national team and have the opportunity to meet the players.

"Even the younger players, with all the talent they have, they need to have a little experience and confidence when they come into this setting. So if we bring them along the right way, when they step onto the field they're going to be able to produce for us."

hopefully bruce will get him into a friendly soon enough, becuase he could be a big contributer for us in the hex like donovan and beasly were 3-4 years back.
