Cornell Glen
Metros Glen in T&T Squad 06/08/04
by Shaun Fuentes - Metrostars striker Cornell Glen will join the Trinidad and Tobago national team for a friendly international against Guatemala in Guatemala City next Wednesday.
The match will serve as a warm-up for both teams ahead of the 2006 semi-final round matches and is likely to be a closely contested one.
Glen, formerly of Trinidad champion club CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh will join the T&T traveling party in Miami on Monday along with Calgary Mustangs forward Conrod Smith and Chesapeake Athletic Dragons defender Derek Phillips who made his debut for the Soca Warriors in their recent 1-1 draw with South Korea at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.
The other T&T overseas pros available to head coach Bertille St Clair for the friendly against Guatemala include China-based duo Arnold Dwarika and Gary Glasgow, Anthony Rougier and Wake Forest University forward Scott Sealy.. CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh defender Keyeno Thomas is also expected to join the team following a recent trial in England.
The likes of Birmingham City striker Stern John, Scottish-based foursome of Brent Sancho, Brent Rahim, Marvin Andrews and Jason Scotland among others have been ruled out of the friendly but should be available for the semi-final round qualifier against St Vincent and the Grenadines on August 18.
T&T Technical director Lincoln Phillips said it was a plus to have a few of the overseas-pros for the friendly but stressed that it would be even more beneficial for the players who have been knocking on the door for first team selection.
"Again it's going to give the other guys a chance to play another 90 minutes. The Korean trip was a great opportunity for them and they came through it well. Now the coach has another chance to see what these guys can produce. The fact is that we now have some players stepping up and doing well. Then you have the younger ones also starting to do well and develop and the right time. The pool is getting bigger and better and includes some very promising young blood," Phillips said.
Having the likes of Rougier, Dwarika and Glasgow around is still a plus, Phillips added, as the squad should benefit from facing a Central American opponent.
"It's not a FIFA day so it's a plus being able to get some of the overseas guy That is going to serve us really well especially as this game against Guatemala presents a chance for us to test ourselves against the Central Americans with their tricky short passing style.
"We still have a problem in our inability to keep possession and we need to improve significantly in that area. The technical staff is aware of that and are putting things in place to rectify that problem," said Phillips
The T&T team will be captained by Jabloteh midfielder Angus Eve and includes talented youngsters as Joe Public defender Derek King, Arima/Morvant Fire midfielder Densil Theobald and Silvio Spann, who expected to join Crotian club Dinamo Zagreb, among other names.

Gaven is the real deal but people better enjoy him now because he won't be in the league for to much longer. My guess is that he will transfer to a big european club in the winter of 2007.

I think Gaven plays the whole 2006 in MLS and during the winter transfer window in Jan. 2007 he will be sold for some major $$$.

Costa Rica -2- Honduras Guevara-5
it happens to the best of us
