MLS SHRUGS OFF SECOND TWELLMAN BID

Twellman won't be leaving New England
Preston North End's attempt to secure the services of Taylor Twellman from the New England Revolution of Major League Soccer has been quashed by the league.
"It looks like the bid is at a dead end," Preston's Ben Rhodes told YA.
After an initial bid of 1.5 million dollars was turned down by the league last week, the Lillywhites, desperate for a solid striker as they sit at the bottom of the standings, submitted yet another bid in hopes of signing the 27-year old American.
"Yesterday we placed a second bid which was around $2 million with further money based on incentives", continued Rhodes. "We heard back overnight that MLS didn't want to accept that bid so it appears that the deal is dead in the water."
"We thought he'd be an excellent addition to Preston."
"We've been pretty successful with American players at PNE with Brian McBride and Eddie Lewis and would have liked to bring Twellman to Preston."
Twellman, who is the Revolution's all-time leading scorer, was the second overall pick in the 2002 MLS Super Draft. He joined MLS following an unsuccessful two-year stint with German Bundesliga club 1860 Munich who the 5' 11" forward signed with after prematurely leaving college.
The St. Louis native has appeared for the national team 29 times since 2002, although the striker has only managed to score six goals in those appearances including a hat-trick against Norway in 2006.
