Milan after a striker - Adebayor, Drogba or Eto'o?

Galliani has admitted that Milan are searching for a world class striker and it appears they're concentrating on three main targets, here's the situation:

Adebayor - they've written a letter to Arsenal asking about his availability but they didn't get a reply.
Drogba - they're waiting for Chelsea to let them know his price tag within the next few days.
Eto'o - they've spoken to him and opened negotiations but money is an issue at the moment.

From what's being reported it's highly likely that Milan will sign one of these three players this summer.

Berbatov, Mario Gomez and Shevchenko have also been mentioned.

Emmanuel Adebayor’s Rossoneri move is back on after his agent confessed, “it’s difficult to turn down Milan.”

General manager Adriano Galliani has publicly named the Arsenal striker as the primary transfer target.

Although he said he was happy at the Emirates, agent Stephane Courbis painted a different picture.

“It is difficult to say if Emmanuel will play for Milan,” he told Italian station Radio Radio TV.

“I know the club has been in contact with Arsenal and now it all depends on the intentions of the English side.

“Milan are a great club, among the best in the world, and when a team like that wants to buy you, you have to think about it very carefully.

“There has to be an agreement between the two clubs. Adebayor is happy at Arsenal, but when a player is tracked by Milan, it is difficult to turn them down.”

The comments are pennies from Heaven for Galliani, who is finding it very difficult to tempt a world class striker to San Siro after failing to qualify for the Champions League.

Arsene Wenger still has no intention of parting with the Togo international for less than £30m, but Adebayor’s manager is putting a cat among the pigeons.

After all, Milan have already tempted Mathieu Flamini across to Serie A in an out-of-contract swoop.

One of those strikers would be nice. But the prices being asked for them are ridiculous. I remember reading that the starting bid for Eto'o was 45 million.

Adebayor over-priced for Milan Saturday 14 June, 2008

Milan’s hopes of signing Emmanuel Adebayor have hit a massive obstacle. “He’s too expensive!”

The Arsenal star is the prime transfer target to reinforce the attack and his agent admitted this week an offer from Milan would be “difficult to turn down.”

However, any personal interest was immediately squashed by the huge £30m price-tag placed on the Togo hitman’s head.

“Will we sign Adebayor? I don’t know, he’s very expensive,” commented patron Silvio Berlusconi to journalists at an event in Piacenza.

This closes the list of potential arrivals back down to the equally expensive Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o.

Cheaper options include Spurs man Dimitar Berbatov and Mario Gomez of Germany.

Wasn't Milan willing to spend 60 million on Ronaldinho? I would think anything considerably less then that wouldn't be a problem. Maybe the lose of revenue from CL will only allow Milan to make a couple changes.

Hope they don't go after Gomez though....still hoping he will go to Roma.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has revealed that the Rossoneri’s striking short list has been reduced to just one name – Emmanuel Adebayor.

The Rossoneri are in dire need of a big-name attacking addition to pair with Brazilian starlet Alexandre Pato.

A number of stars have been linked with the Diavolo, including Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o, Mario Gomez, Andriy Shevchenko and Dimitar Berbatov, but only one man still seems to be a realistic possibility.

“There is only one course of negotiations in progress and that is for Adebayor,” Galliani explained.

“There are no talks for Drogba or even Eto’o. Milan are absolutely ruling out those possibilities – it’s Adebayor or we will stay as we are.

“The deal depends on Arsenal. The player is under contract and at the moment they are saying no.

“Anything could happen, but at the moment I have a letter from Arsenal saying that they aren’t ready to negotiate.

“Nonetheless, this is already a Milan squad capable of winning the Scudetto and we have already brought back a 19-goal striker in Marco Borriello.”

Tbh I'm quite surprised I personally don't rate Adebayor so I am shocked...I think his performance this season was a bit of a fluke. I assume they are only going after him because he is the cheapest of the 3 strikers they have named above.

I personally think they're right to go after someone like Adebayor. He's got a physical presence and can hold the ball up extremely well, he's exactly what they need. Now they've already brought Borriello in, who's similar, but he won't be enough I feel.

However he really isn't critical infront of the goal he misses so many chances for example against Man Utd he missed some really important and sometimes easy chances which cost Arsenal.

He is good in the air but I personally wouldn't call him strong.
what about Pato then?

Yeah, I can't really disagree with what you're saying. But at the same time I can see what Milan see in him, and to be fair he scored a decent amount of goals last season.

Pato? He's more of a forward. He'll definitely play, there's no doubt about that. He's scored 9 goals in 18 appearances since he joined in January, not a bad record at all.

Apparently if given the choice Arsenal would rather sell to Barca, who have been linked with Adebayor but his agent says that it finally is his choice who he goes to.
