Former Milan star George Weah has advised the Rossoneri to fight as hard as they can for the signature of Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayor.

Despite interest from Barcelona, Milan are favourites to clinch the Togolese ace’s services as Arsenal have reportedly resigned themselves to his departure.

Reports suggest that the Rossoneri may be just £3m away from a successful bid and ex-European and World Player of the Year Weah believes the financial sacrifice is worth it.

“He’s a good player and I think it would be good for Milan to sign him,” the Liberian legend stressed.

“He is skilful, strong and good goal scorer. If the Diavolo have a chance to sign him then it would be the right move.”

The total cost of Adebayor looks likely to amount to a transfer record for the world champions as they look to rebuild in the hope of a Scudetto challenge next term.

It's a little puzzling but I think a lack of any other options has given Arsenal the chance to basically ask for however much they want.

My valuation would probably be around £20m.

Milan have offered £28m for Adebayor?! He is good, but that's a ridicolous amount. Huntelaar, Diego Milito, and probably even Villa would cost less.

It's much better if Milan bought Huntelaar from Ajax for a fee of £15m and then use the another £15m on a another really good player.

The management of Milan must be replaced. Their strategy on the transfer market in recently years has been a disaster except Pato.

Milan’s attempts to sign Emmanuel Adebayor seem to have hit a brick wall as the striker declares his intention to stay at Arsenal.

The Rossoneri are trying to find a big-name striker to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of next season.

After links with a number of names, Vice-President Adriano Galliani set his heart on Adebayor, who seemed keen on the switch but has now backed away.

“I am an Arsenal player and I still have three years on my contract,” the Togolese ace said.

“The important thing for me is to enjoy playing. I will be staying at Arsenal whatever happens and I have lots of years ahead of me because I have a good contract at a big club.

“I am playing for one of the best teams in the world and I am happy where I am.”

Milan had been expected to table a bid in excess of £25m, but it now seems that the trail has gone cold.

“I have a three-year contract at Arsenal but as you know, a lot of clubs are interested in me,” he told Sky Sports News.

“Lots of teams want me and at the moment we are just going to sit down and talk so we can decide what to do.

Arsenal marksman Emmanuel Adebayor is moving further away from Milan after hinting that he would rather join Barcelona.

The Togolese international became Milan’s main target as they look to add to their firepower this summer and he seems set to quit the Emirates Stadium in spite of the Gunners’ desire to keep him.

According to the News of the World, Adebayor has demanded a new £120,000-per-week deal is he is to stay put, but he is now flirting with Barcelona rather than Milan.

“Barcelona have made a good financial offer,” the 24-year-old said. “I am under contract with Arsenal, but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands, otherwise I will leave.

“You have to take advantage of the moment. Why not go to Barcelona if their Coach Josep Guardiola already has me in his plans?

“Milan are a great club, but unfortunately they aren’t in the Champions League,” he concluded.

The Rossoneri are being widely tipped to turn to Barcelona star Ronaldinho instead and are said to be closing in on an agreement.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has explained that Arsenal’s £35m price tag on Emmanuel Adebayor is beyond the club’s financial capabilities.

The Diavolo are desperate to lure a big-name marksman this summer and after a number of possible targets had been ruled out they seemed to have found their man in Adebayor.

However, the Rossoneri would be unlikely to match Barcelona’s reported bid of £25m, let alone the additional £10m the Gunners seem to want.

“There are continuous requests for Adebayor, but Arsenal are demanding £35m and that is impossible for clubs in Italy,” Galliani moaned.

“That’s why the top footballers in the world don’t come here anymore.

“When big clubs like Barcelona and Chelsea arrive it is impossible to compete because they are in a very advantageous fiscal situation.”

Adebayor remains unsettled at the Emirates Stadium and has demanded a pay rise of almost 400 per cent to stay in London.

Ya, they definitely need another striker. Can't rely on Pato and Borriello to carry the team in Serie A and Uefa Cup. If Ronaldo was still around, they could could possibly get by...but reinforcements are needed. Pippo isn't the young stud he once was.
