Milan keen for Shevchenko return

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi plans to give striker Andriy Shevchenko the chance of a return to the club.

The 31-year-old scored 173 goals in almost 300 matches for Milan between 1999-2006, before joining Chelsea.

He is now surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge and may be tempted to end his difficult spell there.

Berlusconi said: "I would like Andriy on a performance-related contract in order to motivate him. If he has the will, he will return."

Shevchenko joined Chelsea from Milan for £30m in 2006 but has failed to establish himself in the first team, despite the arrival of Avram Grant as manager in place of Jose Mourinho.

"I think regularly about Shevchenko and I often speak to him," added Berlusconi.

"The fans would understand that this would be the ideal choice for us."

Shevchenko's first season ended prematurely when he had hernia surgery - forcing the striker to miss the Champions League semi-final against Liverpool and the FA Cup final.

The Ukraine forward has a record of 21 goals in 68 appearances for Chelsea.

Oh dear... here we go again. Although for Milan a "pay as you play" contract could work, but even so, at his age he's not the type of solution Milan should be looking at.

It's too late now for him to return. I think they should let him go, move on and build a good & young squad for next season.

This wouldn't be that bad for Milan. I know he is old but he could still play in Serie A, I mean they still play Inzaghi and he pretty much cope can't he? Sheva is younger and would probably help AC seeing as they have problems in attack. They have Pato who is still young to lead the line by himself. Ronaldo is injured. Gilardino I don't rate at all. Inzaghi can play but he is still old so might need to be rested more, but still I don't think that this move would be devastating for AC. But I guess I am a bit biased.

This would be the best for Chelsea obviously we wouldn't get anywhere near the region of 30mill for him, but if we could get 10 mill that would great, tho I do expect it to be lower.

Milan need to fresh up their squad with more younger and hungry players. Not sign more players who are on their way down in their career.

He's not on his way down. I mean yeah he hasn't had much luck in England but the league is completely different to Serie A so I'm sure he would be able to return to his old self, or as close to it as he possibly can.

I feel sorry for Milan fans...they've been tortured for so long with the Sheva/Ronaldinho rumours on almost a weekly basis for years now.

Milan could of used Sheva this season with Ronaldo getting injured.
