Gourcuff loaned to Bordeaux
Quote:
I’m like Zizou, says Gourcuff
Friday 15 September, 2006
Milan’s Yoann Gourcuff says he’s flattered to have been compared with Kaka, but insists he feels technically more similar to Zinedine Zidane.
The French youngster, nicknamed ‘Petit Zidane’, is the talk of the town after his Champions League heroics against AEK Athens and he’s happy to have been given the opportunity to reveal himself.
“I have to thank Coach Carlo Ancelotti for giving me a spot in the starting line-up on Wednesday, it was a risk for him in such an important match and I am glad I repaid his trust with a goal,” said the 20-year-old.
“It’s an honour for me to hear that I am being compared to Kaka and Zidane, but I admit I feel that I play more like the latter as Kaka is much faster than me,” continued the former Rennes man.
“I think Zidane is a great example as an athlete and as a person, with the exception of the World Cup Final episode. I just met him a few times, but was too shy to speak to him.”
The midfielder, who still had a year left on his previous contract with Ligue 1 outfit Rennes, landed in Milan in the summer after signing a contract until June 30, 2011.
“I chose Milan for its history and what they represent in Europe and I am very glad about my move,” he underlined.
“I am getting along well with my teammates, all of them, but I know that I need to keep my feet on the ground.
“There are so many high-quality players and it won’t be easy to find place on the team,” continued Gourcuff.
“I will keep on working hard in order to always be prepared if Ancelotti decides that it’s time for me to play.”

Gourcuff, who has one good game against AEK Athens and been slobbered over by the Silvio publicity machine (and the Gazzetta) ever since, hence Today's installment: "I am more Zidane than Kaka".
I hadn't realised that he was the son of the rather eccentric French coach now at Lorient. That explains a bit, both when it comes to talent and attitude.

He didn't say that he was as good as Zidane, only that he is more like Zidane than Kaka. Nothing controversial imo.

Publicity or not, if he is playing, he is no fluke. He must have some potential.

I admire teams teams that go out and search for young talent, and aren't scared to make them play. Thats why ancelotti is who he is.

a sub appearance for a 20 year old attacking player is hardly the height of bravery

A bit early to be making judgements like that isnt it? I mean we've just notice this guy and already is being compared to a Fifa World Player of the year?

Gourcuff Happy With Milan Progress
French Under-21 star Yohann Gourcuff inisist he is happy with the progress he is making with the Rossoneri.
Milan have not been in their usual form this season, and Gourcuff has not seen regular action, but the youngster is happy to be learning and progressing, particularly from experienced players such as Clarence Seedorf.
"It is so motivating to train with the kind of players there are at AC Milan," he said.
"It is not easy to see that Roma and Inter are far away in the table.
"However, even if we have conceded a few more draws than we should have, I am happy to be at Milan.
"People talk less about me, but it permits me to work calmly, though it is true that sometimes I miss playing with my friends."
He also gave his take on the current crisis surrounding Calcio, in the aftermath of a policeman's death in events surrounding last week's Sicilian derby.
"I can understand the passion of the fans, but hatred is inadmissible," said the teenager.

I like this kid, very similar to Kaka in his style.
He needs more playing time though.

I agree, he needs to play more...that's always the case of talented young players at big clubs! Hard to find a place!

He's made 11 appearances in Serie A this season (6 as a sub) and has 2 assists. He's scored in the CL as well.
