“Thanks for the birthday wishes. We’re getting older…I’m joking, obviously. I thank all the fans who are writing to me. I expect them all for the summer camp on the 23rd of July at Milanello. All of those whom I shall meet I will greet them and I will hug them. Now I’m here at Lampedusa, with a beautiful sea and with a beautiful sun, but I feel very close to me the Milan fans on the day of my birthday.”

- Do you get to think about next season?
“Yes, definitely. It will be a really difficult season. We will already have a game at Montecarlo in August for the European Super Cup and it would be very important to start the year in the right way. Then in December we shall do some extra kilometer to go to Japan. It’s been a few years since the last time that Milan won the Intercontinental Cup and it would please us all to lift this trophy. I had seen the match between Milan and Boca on TV and I remember it, just like I had watched the finals of Tokyo during the time of Gullit and Van Basten. Those were historic and fascinating encounters. It is a wonderful thing to be part of them.”

- How are you?
“Good, very good. Holidays are important, but before the training camp I will do some work to present myself in the best possible way at Milanello for the start of the preparation.”

- Milan is close to 30,000 season tickets for next season…
“Really? I didn’t know that. It’s a very important thing. It means that last season we did something important and that for this reason there is a lot of enthusiasm amongst the fans. The more packed the stadium will be every Sunday, the better it would be for us all.”

Gila wants winning feeling Wednesday 25 July, 2007

Alberto Gilardino is confident Milan can fulfil the fans’ desire for glory this season. “We want to win as much as possible.”

The Rossoneri started their pre-season training on Monday and the striker hopes to improve on last term’s performance, when he scored just 12 goals in 30 Serie A matches.

“Our condition is very good, we want to start the new campaign with great objectives and we are preparing well,” Gilardino told Sky Italia.

“Playing with Milan also means that we have great responsibility and we all know this. We are trying to work well, despite the rumours about the arrival of new strikers.

“We all have a great desire to do well already, starting from August with the European Super Cup,” continued the Italy international.

“We want to win this trophy, to then start a great championship and arrive at the World Club Cup in December in great shape. We shall try to win as much as possible.”

The former Parma hitman does not fear the competition of the other Rossoneri strikers and would be ready to welcome a new signing as well.

“Me, Ronaldo, Kaka and Fiippo Inzaghi are working well and we will try to do all we can for this team. In any case, if the club decides to invest on a great champion, we will be glad to welcome him.”

Vice-President Adriano Galliani confirmed that the club will soon sign a new man for their attacking department, but rules out the possibility that Andriy Shevchenko could return to the San Siro.

“We want a new striker before the closure of the transfer window and he will be a non-EU player,” said the Rossonero before entering the Lega Calcio offices this morning.

“However it won’t be Shevchenko, there are not the conditions needed for him to return to Milan.”

MILANELLO – Hereunder is an interview of Alberto Gilardino with Milan Channel:

In training Alberto Gilardino has already proven to be fit: “I’m definitively fine. In this period I have been working very well, I did not take part in the Moscow tournament, but I stayed here to train with my trainers: the knee is responding well, this morning we made some important tests, they are the first ones and I’m satisfied. We still have a lot of time to work and improve on a lot of things, but I’m already at a good point: I’m happy.”

Do you agree with those who tell you to risk more, like you used to do with Parma?: “In these last two years with the Rossoneri at times, maybe, I gave that sensation: in some occasions I did not risk like I did maybe at Parma. However, when I arrived at Milan many things changed, it’s true, I must find back that instinct which I always had, that instinct which made me do well during the matches. I’m fine, this year I have a great desire to prove this, to score goals and I hope it’s a great season.”

The discussions on the performances in the Rossoneri’s shirt have made Alberto Gilardino ‘angrier’?: “You mature, I already have an important age and certain things I assimilate them. I have been playing in Serie A for the past seven years, I saw many episodes, but I have always managed to overcome them with great strength of character. In these two years at Milan I have also built myself in character, it’s important to continue doing well on the pitch. The most important responses are given there and for us attackers the goal is the most important response.”

Today Alexandre Pato made his debut at Milanello. The Brazilian talent is just 17 years-old; for such a young striker, what are the fears when you go in such an important dressing room like that of the Rossoneri: "Pato must not fear anything. I saw him on TV, he has great qualities, we must let him work with tranquillity, without putting any pressure on him and I think that he can become a great player. He already is and in this environment he can become even greater.”

Alberto Gilardino has a personal objective for the 2007/08 season? “Mine and for all the team: the European Supercup and the Intercontinental Cup, without forgetting the league, Champions League and Coppa Italia. These are all important objectives, but I think the first two represent the fundamental ones.”

Great interview, and you can tell ow determined Gila is to do well. I think if he is given the time he will have a great season. And he could be fit for Thursday's game. THis is good because if he plays and scores he is slowly drying his cement to get him into the starting line-up.

And he has handled all the negative press well.

Gilardino Not Thinking About Exit

Alberto Gilardino has insisted that he will not be driven out of the club by the 'boo-boys'.

There has been plenty of criticism directed at the player since the draw against Fiorentina, and though he scored during the 2-2 draw with Dinamo Kiev, the pressure continues unabated.

With Ronaldo likely to make his return very soon, and 'Pippo' Inzaghi doing far better as well, he has been linked with an exit from the club.

However, the former Parma man is keen on staying put, and calm about his future.

"Yesterday, I spoke with president Silvio Berlusconi and Adriano Galliani," he said on Friday evening.

"Both have reassured me that my future is at Milan, so I can be calm.

"I will try to always give everything on the field and hope to have a little more luck in front of goal."

Great to hear, I thank Slvio for saying it to Gila because that give him confidnece and when he has confidence he WILL score.

Gila shrugs off media pressure Friday 26 October, 2007

Alberto Gilardino is brimming with confidence after his Champions League brace, but assures he did not suffer when lambasted by fans and media.

“The life of a striker includes moments when you are criticised my sections of the Press. We are used to being put under pressure and the important thing is to continue working with a relaxed approach,” smiled the Milan man.

Ahead of the double against Shakhtar Donetsk, Gila had only scored two European goals for the club, while he also broke his long Serie A drought with a brace in the 5-1 thumping of Lazio.

Now he is called to prove some level of consistency as the Rossoneri welcome Roma to San Siro on Sunday afternoon and aim for their first home win of the Serie A season.

“Milan have always given me the opportunity to work in the best circumstances, waited for me in difficult moments, gave me a great deal and proved they have faith in my abilities by renewing my contract,” continued the former Parma hitman on ‘Milan Channel.’

“Even President Silvio Berlusconi confirmed his confidence in me. I saw many times that he defended me to the Press when I was being attacked and I really must thank him so much for that.”

Gilardino is expected to start upfront against Roma this Sunday, but teammates Ronaldo and Marek Jankulovski are out injured.

“Marek is a great friend of mine. We arrived at Milan at the same time, acclimatised to this club together and lived close by, so we often made the journey to training with each other.

“Last season Ronaldo provided me with so many assists. He is an extraordinary player and knows that everyone in the squad cannot wait for him to return.”

‘Il Fenomeno’ is yet to make a single official appearance for Milan this term after sustaining a series of muscular problems.

Gila on target in Dubai Tuesday 8 January, 2008


Alberto Gilardino scored both goals as Milan defeated the United Arab Emirates 2-0, but Ronaldo showed he has a long way to go.

The Rossoneri concluded their mid-season training camp in Dubai with a friendly victory over the UAE national side at the Al Maktoum stadium.

Gilardino came on for the second half and bagged a brace in the final 12 minutes, at full stretch to meet a Kaka cross-shot and then firing in at the near post.

These goals and a good overall performance boost Gila’s chances of starting Sunday night’s big match against Napoli.

Although Ronaldo started the match and lasted for the opening 45 minutes, he did not look in great shape and still needs time if he is to make only his second official appearance since July 31.

Il Fenomeno has been struggling with a recurring calf problem and now the main issue remains his overall fitness levels.

Pippo Inzaghi is also a major doubt for this weekend, as he has just been released from hospital with a painful kidney stone injury.

It is increasingly likely that Gilardino will partner 18-year-old debutant Alexandre Pato with support from Kaka against Napoli.

Pato is already at the Milanello training ground and underwent a special double session today in a bid to be at full fitness for this Sunday.

Other impressive performances in Dubai came from Zeljko Kalac and Yoann Gourcuff, the Frenchman going close to a goal and creating a great chance for Marcos Cafu.

Agent: Milan won’t sell Gila Friday 18 January, 2008

Alberto Gilardino’s position at Milan seems to be unstable, but the striker’s agent insists that the club aren’t looking to sell him.

The former Parma man has struggled for form this term and doesn’t look the same player that burst the net so regularly at the Stadio Tardini.

With the arrival of Brazilian starlet Alexandre Pato, Gila’s chances of securing regular first-team football have diminished and there have been rumours linking him with Fiorentina, but his agent isn’t worried.

“Milan have no intention of selling Gilardino,” Beppe Bonetto stressed.

“Will Alberto go to Florence in a swap deal with Sebastien Frey? At the moment that is impossible and not just because of problems with the wage bill.”

It is believed that Gilardino earns more than double the annual salary of Viola stars Frey, Adrian Mutu and Christian Vieri.

It seems almost certain that the unsettled hitman will have to settle for a seat on the bench this weekend as Milan travel to Champions League rivals Udinese.
