Adriano Galliani insists Alberto Gilardino will stay with Milan for some time – just days after publicly putting him on the transfer market for £17m.

The striker last week revealed that he was considering his options at the San Siro after admitting that he was sick of being treated as a flop and wanted the outfit to show more faith in his abilities.

The European giants didn’t appreciate Gila’s interview, but Vice-President Galliani insists everything has been ironed out with the youngster.

“Just as Filippo Inzaghi, I believe Gila will be a Milan striker for the next 10 years,” said the official on Friday.

“I am sure that all the problems will be resolved. We met with the player, his father and his agent a few days ago and we were all very serene.

“Gila must understand that we have great faith in him, but no Milan player has ever demanded a spot in the starting line-up.

“He will be one of the four strikers in the squad next season and will have to compete with his teammates.”

The former Parma man is a reported target for Juventus, as a possible David Trezeguet replacement, but Galliani is confident that Gilardino has learned his lesson.

“He is young, strong and will be granted space like all of his teammates,” added the former Lega chief. “We would have never reached the Athens Final had we not had so many players here.

“It isn’t always a dishonour to start from the bench, but I am sure Alberto will understand all this. It is normal that he wants to play – he wouldn’t be a Milan player otherwise.”

The former Parma striker had complained at the lack of faith shown in him by the club and demanded a regular spot in the starting XI, but today’s talk with officials cleared the air.

“I am very happy we had this meeting, as it was important to clarify the situation,” said Gilardino.

Despite what he's saying it doesn't change the fact that he's a Juventino, given the opportunity he would sign for us.

He may be a Juventino, but I don't agree that he would instantly drop Milan if the chance to play for Juve came up.

The enormity of the bullshit he's been put through this season is of the kind of scale that no one who doesn't love the shirt would put up with it. In all seriousness, it was-- and still is-- that bad. I can make a list if you want.

And whenever it was at its worst, he would always make some kind of public statement about how he "wants only Milan", or do some kind of "I love this shirt" celebration. If he wanted to leave he could have done so in December, or in this recent incident, by making enough of a nuisance of himself that Milan becomes desperate to loan/sell. He's had every opportunity, but so far, he hasn't taken it.

For whatever reason and whether or not it makes any kind of logical sense, his actions-- not even just his words-- have proven him one of the most loyal Milan players in the current squad. And I stand by that, even if he does end up leaving after all, because it takes such an incredible degree of loyalty to have stayed THIS long.

Gilardino Can Leave, Raps Angry Ancelotti The message from Carlo Ancelotti to Alberto Gilardino seems to be very clear: 'stop complaining and fight for a place, or pack your bags'.
Gilardino has failed to convince this season, and had hit out at the lack of faith in his abilities earlier in the weekend, insisting that he would "not confirm" his future unless offered guarantees.

His fear seems to be that with Inzaghi, Ronaldo and another top forward coming in, he will be fourth in line at best.

However, Carlo Ancelotti is clearly unimpressed with the fear, and gave the striker a piece of his mind.

"Competition must act as an incentive to do better, and not feel like a weight on your shoulders," he rapped.

"Gilardino is young, can still improve and has already scored a lot of goals. Like everyone, he has had his ups and downs."

"If he thinks he needs to go, then there is no reason why we can’t help him achieve that, as long as we find a valid alternative," quipped Ancelotti, clearly unhappy.

“Up until a few days ago he seemed relaxed and the situation was under control. He speaks of faith and fair play, but we have always put our trust in him.
