Gattuso out until 2007
Quote:
Gattuso out until 2007
Tuesday 7 November, 2006
Tests have confirmed Gennaro Gattuso’s knee injury is worse than previously feared, as he’ll be out until the New Year.
The Milan midfielder limped off during Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Atalanta’s Stadio Azzurri d’Italia in Bergamo.
At first the medical staff has hypothesised a month-long lay-off for the Italian international, but today tests in Antwerp with Professor Martens showed a worse picture.
“Gattuso has suffered a sprain to his left knee with damage to the collateral medial ligament,” explained club doctor Massimiliano Sala on the official website.
“Martens excluded the need for surgery, but Gattuso should return to action in January and will begin the first phase of treatment this week. He’ll be constantly monitored and will visit Professor Martens for another check-up at the start of December.”
It’s a blow for the Rossoneri, who are already struggling with three defeats from their last four Serie A games.
Cristian Brocchi, who was brought back after a loan spell at Fiorentina in the summer, is set to take over Gattuso’s role in midfield.
As for the other Milan players on the treatment table, Massimo Ambrosini and Alessandro Nesta are almost ready to return, but it’ll take “at least another few weeks” for Kakha Kaladze to recover from his thigh strain.
Giuseppe Favalli is now over his muscular problem and is considered fully fit.

Milan's poor performances are due to Gattuso being injured ?

Not really, they weren't playing that great even when he was fit.
His return will be a boost though with so many other key players still injured (Kaka, Ambrosini, Nesta, etc).

It's not serious, he should be fit for the game next week.
There was even a chance that he might play today.

Gattuso has signed a new contract with Milan that'll see him remain with the club until 2011.

Well i guess he won't be joining the Rangers anytime soon. Good that he signed. Milan need to keep players with heart like he has.

Renamed this into a general Gattuso thread.
This has some interesting stuff in it:
Quote:
THE KEY IS TEAMWORK
4/13/2007 11:54:00 AM
There is no stopping a Champion like Rino Gattuso as he has just the right attitude to help Milan in their fight all the way to the top
MILAN - Rino Gattuso will be the testimonial for a new brand of sports drink for the Italian market. According to the Top Star research, 88% of those interviewed could immediately recognize Rino’s face just by looking at a photo. His notoriety has literally exploded since the 2006 World Cup.
Rino spoke about Milan at the press conference held yesterday for the new initiative. First he had a word about coach Carlo Ancelotti: ‘He will definitely 100% remain with Milan.’ On Manchester: ‘Cristiano Ronaldo is already very present in our thoughts. It is pretty much obvious that after the 7-1 against Roma Manchester are frightening but when we play our Milan game we are inferior to no one. It was difficult to seem my national team-mates end up like that at the Old Trafford. A blow like that is one that you carry with your for years, just like happened to us after Istanbul. I would prefer a return match with Liverpool to playing the final with Sheva. Kakà compared Milan to Italy in the World Cup? That means that he understands the key to our victory in Germany well: it was the fruit of our teamwork. That is a fundamental element of both the national side and Milan. The team is more important than the individual players. Ronaldinho? The club knows what to do. I am more of the point of view that it is better to invest in various players with that amount of money instead of just one great champion.’

A.C. Milan - THE KEY IS TEAMWORK
88%, huh? For those who live in Italy or have spent time there recently-- is he honestly THAT well-recognized?
I like what he said about Ronaldinho (better to buy several players rather than just him) and I'm very surprised that Milan actually put that on the website.

Well, the other day Gattuso was encourtaging Milan to buy 'Dinho. Oh well. of course Gattuso is that well recognised. 70% of teh nation follows footie, and teh other 20% who don't know most of the players anyway. And who can forget a player like Gatty, and not to mention he is a WC winner.
Good for him though, and I have seen him, in some women Italian magazines too. lol

I read that article on channel4 a few days ago (about Rino encouraging Milan to buy Ronaldinho), but honestly it seemed like the Ronaldinho angle was all channel4's. If I remember correctly he never mentioned Dinho by name, he just said something to the effect of "if we do well we can attract more top players".
Anyway, now he's on about Mancini's recent statement that the scudetto is harder than the CL.
Quote:
Gattuso: Euro harder than Scudetto
Monday 16 April, 2007
Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso does not agree with Roberto Mancini’s latest Scudetto claims. “The Champions League is worth three or four Scudetti.”
The Inter Coach had declared on Saturday that he believed a triumph in Serie A was a more difficult task compared to the European competition, which obviously remained a fascinating tournament.
“I guess me and Mancini have different opinions on this issue,” said Gattuso on Monday.
“I have always heard everyone say that the Champions League is worth three or four Scudetti,” explained the World Cup hero.
“I don’t want to be misunderstood, Inter have deserved to win this Scudetto, but I believe it is excessive to say that it is harder to win the Championship than the Champions League.”
Gattuso could not avoid questions on the 2004 match between Juventus and Milan, which was included in the latest list of incriminated ties after public prosecutors in Naples wrapped up their Calciopoli investigation.
“These events belong to the past. Our lawyers will decide if the club will appeal to have that title assigned to us, but we are talking about two years ago, now we are playing another championship.
“Of course I am mad to read about the phone calls made to the referees before the match, but what can I do? I have had the same number for the past 12 years and it is the only one I know..,” concluded Gattuso.
Milan leapfrogged Palermo in fourth place thanks to their win over Messina on Sunday and will face Manchester United in their third consecutive Champions League semi-final on April 24 and May 2.
