Motta is also very injury prone, so he would be out about 30-40% of the season.

Milan prepare Baptista bid Friday 27 July, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan are lining up a £12m bid for Real Madrid striker Julio Baptista, according to reports in the Spanish Press.
The San Siro club have yet to make their mark during this summer’s transfer market after being paired with several strikers, including Andriy Shevchenko, Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho.
However, that could all change, with Spanish newspaper AS claiming that the Rossoneri are ready lodge a bid for Baptista with the Liga champions.
Sporting director Predrag Mijatovic values the player at £12m and is reportedly unwilling to let him leave for anything less than that amount.
Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani [pictured] stated earlier this week that the club would sign a mystery player this summer, only revealing that he would be a non-EU footballer.
“We are planning a new signing, he is neither Italian nor an EU member, but could soon become one,” said Galliani, fuelling the speculation over Baptista, who is close to gaining EU citizenship.
The attacking midfielder scored a sensational goal in Brazil’s 3-0 Copa America Final victory over Argentina and spent last season on loan in the Premiership with Arsenal

Milan close on Pato Friday 27 July, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Milan are ready to launch their final assault on teenage sensation Alexandre Pato, according to the latest reports in Italy.
The 17-year-old, who won the Copa Libertadores and the FIFA World Club Championship last year, is a fast and technically gifted striker who is highly rated by Rossoneri Coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Former player and current official Leonardo is expected to travel to South America shortly to speak with the youngster, who is a reported target for Real Madrid and some English clubs as well.
The Internacional player, who scored three goals for Brazil in the Under-20 World Cup in Canada this month, could arrive in August if a deal can be thrashed out.
However, Pato’s representative Gilmar Veloz recently stated that Madrid was his client’s preferred destination.
Paulo Roberto Falcao, who was in Italy for Roma’s 80th birthday party celebrations, believes that the player has a bright future – but he cannot be rushed.
“In Brazil we are aware of the fact that Pato has attracted the interest of Milan, Real Madrid and Premiership outfits,” he said. “He is a good player, but he is still only 17 – at that age you are only a child.
“He needs time and still has much to learn, but he is definitely talented and very strong from a technical point of view.”

Galliani-Mijatovic, affari in spiaggia.

(Agr)

Galliani talks transfer market
Quote:
GALLIANI DESCRIBES TRANSFER MARKET
31/07/2007 16.49.00
Today, Adriano Galliani in a press conference following the presentation of the new official shirt, described the transfer market situation of the Rossoneri with clarity and in detail.
Following the press conference of presentation of the new Rossoneri’s official Adidas shirt for the 2007/08 season, the Managing Director Adriano Galliani spoke about the main issues of the transfer market:
Alexandre Pato: “I read that Leonardo is in Brazil to bring the negotiations forward for Pato. This is not true, Leo in fact is just on holiday. If there will be the necessity, he will move. But now he’s there on holiday. Tonight Ariedo Braida will leave to talk to the player and we shall see what developments there will be in the negotiations. We shall see if we shall be able to do an important transfer operation. In any case I’m calm, after twenty one years of football, the time of the summer impulses is over. In these long years of experience, I learnt that often with pharaonic transfer purchases nothing was won, and instead a lot was won with the arrival of few players. Summer is a season in which the market tells you that MAYBE you can obtain results, but the real final balance of results and the reached objectives is done only in May of the following year. With all respect for Oliveira, he arrived and Shevchenko left and we won the Champions League. Why? Because this is football…Therefore if there will be the possibility, we will sign Pato, otherwise the player will be able to join other clubs who are following him. The player interests us for sure, but I repeat, there is no type of anxiety. I remind everyone that Pato is a non-EU and is not yet 18 years-old. He interests us; if he arrives it will be for the month of January."
Julio Baptista: “With regards to the situation of the Real Madrid player, in this case there is no problem to clear things out. If Real Madrid is ready to let him go on loan with an option to buy him, the negotiation will be sealed, otherwise we shall remain like we are and we shall play upfront with Seedorf, Kaka, Ronaldo, Inzaghi and Gilardino. With the directors of Real I was very clear, for the deal to go through, these are our conditions. If Real Madrid accepts this proposal, that's good, otherwise we won't do anything. We would like to make the same incoming operation which we did with the outgoing Oliveira. Kaka? No Real Madrid director has asked me anything about Kaka yet, they know that he’s unreachable and that Milan will not sell him for the next four years: President Berlusconi said so. I deny that Real asked us to also take Cassano. You ask me in what position Baptista would play? I don’t like the discussions with regards to the first, second or half forward. I only say that he would be purchased to be played in one of the three offensive roles. In fact I believe that Milan plays with the 4-3-3. You tell me that Baptista has an EU citizenship…I know about that, but it must be clear that if he should arrive, someone different from Pato should have the EU citizenship since he is our first target, and Pato in fact is a non-EU.

For a change I like the Galliani statements above. Seems more clear, confident and honest than normal I also agree with the content of his statements. Baptista on loan is a good idea. Pato for January is also a better solution.

I can see the thinking behind going for Baptista, although it isn'tsomething I would do. They were impressed by his Copa performances, I take it, and think that the brute force of Baptista coupled with his abillity to show great technical individuality from time to time is something they think they can work with, and perhaps make"time to time" into "regularly." Bold move if they do it, but it'd be a big task. Anyway, Galliani, from that quote, seems very defiant over dealings with Madrid - he seems unwillingly to push beyond a loan deal - you're starting partnership next year, that tells me, will remain the same - Ronaldo/Gila was one, I think. You're not after improvements anymore, it seems. You're after a rotary man - nessecary because of fitness worries on Ronaldo and Inzaghi, and also someone to keep Gila on his toes and rotate their too, but not an overly ambitious attempt a la Ronaldinho, Eto'o, etc.

In fairness Milan made their summer transfers in January allready. Both Ronaldo and Oddo were great signings
Where the club has gotten in to trouble is promising a "huge summer signing"
Baptista wouldn't be a starter and a loan wouldn't be a bad idea..

Yeah United fan, i have been thinking on the same lines.
Baptista as a loan is a much better idea, then we can see how he settles and we don't need to land up in a situation like Oli. Spend a lot get little goals and the money is gone... and vogel
Anyway, yeha Gila and Ronie is the best partnership imo, and Pippo (sometimes), Gila and ROnie can all act as a loan striker if need be. All is good...

Pato sets decision day Wednesday 1 August, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Highly-rated Brazilian striking starlet Alexandre Pato has set an August 15 deadline to decide whether he will join Milan or Real Madrid.
The 17-year-old, nicknamed ‘The Duck’, has been tracked by a host of top European sides including Chelsea, Liverpool and Inter, but is now ready to join either the Rossoneri or the Merengues.
Internacional of Porto Alegre have reportedly demanded £15m for the youngster’s signature, but his rescission clause is set at just £9m.
“My dad is on his way back from a tour of Italy and Spain where he got to know the set-up at Milan and Real,” Pato told website globoesporte.com.
“Pato will decide in the next few days,” his father confirmed. “Things surely can’t continue in this unsure manner so we have to decide one way and end this saga.
“We will resolve this before August 15 once and for all as the | | | | |
