If Milan resorts to a last-minute thing, I suspect it will be a non-EU player (probably one currently playing in South America), since Milan's talking so much about the signing being non-EU anyway.
I like this current crop of names being tossed around though-- Tevez, Robinho, Vagner Love, and Baptista are all quality forwards (but I thought Baptista was more of an attacking mid?) and I'd welcome any of them to Milan. I do wonder how reliable these rumors are, since they're pretty obvious and "easy" rumors to start now, considering how the Copa America turned out.
Shame we're supposedly not interested in Cassano, he's still one I'd like to see at Milan.

The only thing is with the non-eu spot, Milan only have one sot open don't they? And well Pato is having one reserved for him for when he arrives in January, but then we can't by someone now. Or do we have two non -eu spots open?

Milan In For Roma's Mancini?
According to SkySport, the Rossoneri could go for the Brazilian winger to make up for the lack of purchases in the offensive department.
zoom - galleria Amantino Mancini could become a target of Milan according to SkySport's "Speciale Calciomercato", as the Rossoneri are trying to sign a big name player to appease their fans who were promised an important transfer by the President, Silvio Berlusconi, in the past months, but nothing happened so far.
The arrival of Mancini to Milan might not be just speculation, as this comes a day after the arrival of Giuly to Luciano Spalletti's court, a player who plays in the same position of Mancini. However, Roma would rather hold on to the Brazilian, but considering their not so perfect financial position, it might be something they have to do.
This will not mean that the Rossoneri will stop there in their quest to find a top striker signing, but it would definitely make the summer of the Milan fans more interesting.
|
How I would love for Mancini. He is great, he can create is fast and all. I love him, I want him, I want him, I want him. I wonder if this is the 6th name?
So many brazilians though, it's almost bound to be a brazilian signing arriving this summer.
And the nice thing about Mancini is he has alreday adapted to Serie A, so that is one less worry already.

The 6th name is there so they can go for anyone and don't look too bad not getting # 1-5.
I doubt Mancini would leave Roma, especially for a club that don't play with attacking wingers.

Yeha true, but Mancini has been has started talking to Roma about a higher salary and all. I wonder how much they can offer him and how much Milan could.
Ribery is a winger but carlo said he could fit him into the system. Mancini could maybe too, i just love this player so much i would love him at milan. But of course is the wingers story

Well the latest rumours are Cavani is next in line to join Milan:
Quote:
Milan After Palermo's Cavani
According to 'Sky Sport', the surprise attacker that Adriano Galliani promised to the Milan fans in the past few days is Edinson Cavani.
zoom - galleria This would be a surprise move by the Rossoneri who are still after Eto`o' and Shevchenko, but seem to be giving up on these star players and instead concentrate on other leads.
'Sky Sport' reported on Wednesday evening that Milan are now following Palermo's 20-year-old striker, Edinson Cavani, of Uruguay, who took part in the U-20 World Cup with his national team.
Cavani did not feature much in the first team last season, but in his few presences still managed to score two spectacular goals which caught the interest of various clubs.
Now the Rossoneri are hoping to land the Palermo attacker, with his price tag being around 9 million Euros. Apparently the European Champions will try to seal the deal during this weekend in order to sign the player as soon as possible
|
Cavani no doubt played some fantastic games for Palermo, and those goals were magnificent. However, I would like to see him play more first team football before he moves to a bigger club like Milan. He is still young and has a lot to prove, and right now Palermo is a good place for him....
and other news Galliani has declared on Milan's website that Eto'o and 'Dinho shall stay at Barca

I don't totally buy the Cavani story - yes it sounds like the kind of ploy Galliani might try - touting Milan with recognised superstars so he can snip a talent on the cheap while the press gather around Nou Camp for the story on Eto'o to break, but I think investment is needed to, at very least, give you a rotary man up front. Considering concerns ocer Pipo and Ronaldo's fitness over the course of the season, and Gilardino's tendancy to drop out of form every once in a while during a season, a striker of some standing would be my backing.
Ronaldinho and Eto'o, I think we can rule out. Drogba, I'd rule out. Pato and Shevchenko, interest remains. Then the "sixth name" to speculate. Vagner Love, Robinho and Baptista, all Brazilian, all linked. Of those 3, I'd say Baptista is quite inconsistent, and there's the trouble over what role you play him in, which makes him a bit of a complicated player to have in the squad. Robinho, I rate, is a very good dribbler with decent passing play in and around the area, who's been pretty untested at CF in the last 2 seasons - more trouble over where you play him - and you also get the trouble from his lack of physical presence, which could compromise his play in a lot of maches against Italian opposition. Vagner Love I think would be the best bet - a natural CF, able to hold up the ball, score and CL tested - he's a fit for Milan, imo.
I personally think that Milan's non-EU arrival attacker, will be either Pato or Vagner Love.

Good post and I agree with you. Pato or Love seem not as unlikely as the others. Baptista is probably as likely but as you said, where would we play him?
I'd love to see the "Ronaldo Love Kaka" combo on the pitch, if for nothing else for the name combo

Well, Vagner Love has pretty much the best name in all of football, regardless of whom you partner him with.
And of Pato and Love, I'll take Love, hands down. I really don't want to have to hold out until January for someone who, to my eye, looks like a "hype snowball" so far. Even if Pato turns out to be better, I would take a not-quite-as-good player now, rather than play for six months with only three strikers.
I wonder, why is Milan not at least considering Rodrigo Palacio (Boca Juniors)? He didn't have a great Copa America, but his recent performance in the Argentine league is very impressive, and Boca seems potentially willing to part with him.

It would just seem odd to me to give up Oliveira for someone who is just talented but yet unproven...don't know really but I rate Palacio

Palacio has had some strong rumours to Arsenal lately, so maybe that's why Milan are not going for him. I like Palacio and would love to see him play for Milan.
As mentioned in the ETo'o thread the most constant rumour is Baptista. I rather have Baptista over Love, but neither are exactly higholy rated. I think Bapitista could do well.
It loos to me that Milan are just signing Brazilians for the sake of signing Brazilians. I can see Carlo starting a Ronie, Kaka, and Brazilian player A together. Milan must sign who they feel is right, not for the sake they are brazilians

Milan target Julio Baptista? Wednesday 25 July, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Julio Baptista could be Milan’s new target after Vice-President Adriano Galliani revealed that the Rossoneri will soon sign a non-EU player.
The San Siro outfit have yet to finalise an important capture during this summer’s transfer market and have been paired with several strikers, including Andriy Shevchenko, Samuel Eto’o and Ronaldinho.
“Those players are no longer on our list. We are planning a new signing, he is neither Italian nor an EU member, but could soon become one,” said Galliani this morning, fuelling the speculation over Baptista.
The attacking midfielder, who scored a sensational goal in Brazil’s 3-0 Copa America Final victory over Argentina, spent last season on loan in the Premiership with Arsenal.
However, the versatile forward is still owned by Real Madrid, who are keen to offload him after the appointment of new Coach Bernd Schuster, but would welcome a switch to the San Siro.
The Brazilian, who is close to gaining EU citizenship, is highly rated by Rossoneri Coach Carlo Ancelotti and is currently valued at £14m.

Looks like he is getting closer by the day

I don't know. 14m pounds for a non-starter seems excessive a la Oliveira...

Galliani said Baptista isn't our mystery man, It's Motta! A change now from the foward situation. I like Motta and he is younge too. Plus he has an Italian passport so that leaves the non-EU spot for Pato later in January.
Milan: è Motta il Mister X - Gazzetta dello Sport

Motta in Milan’s sights? Thursday 26 July, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Reports in the Italian Press suggest that Barcelona defensive midfielder Thiago Motta is Milan’s secret transfer target.
Rossoneri Vice-President Adriano Galliani [pictured] has revealed that he is lining up a swoop for a non-EU player and has named him ‘Mister X’.
After a barrage of potential names, sources in the peninsula believe they have identified the mystery man as 24-year-old Brazilian star Motta.
“Mister X is not Julio Baptista or Carlos Tevez,” Galliani hinted. “If possible we will sign Alexandre Pato plus another player.
“We were tempted to try and sign Emerson, but we didn’t want to take the shirt away from Yoann Gourcuff.”
Motta is ready to leave Barcelona after the arrival of Ivorian ace Yaya Toure this summer and technical director Txiki Beguiristain has confirmed the Sao Paulo native is heading for the exit.
“Motta’s time at the club is over,” he confirmed. “We have had numerous offers if he wants to leave.”
Importantly, Motta has Italian citizenship which will leave the Diavoli free to sign Pato in January. It is suggested that the fee demanded by the Catalan club will be just over £5m.

Motta has said before he would join Milan.
