A 'made in Italy' solution would be Felipe or Chivu I think, they've been linked with them before.

Gallas opens Milan door
Quote:
Gallas opens Milan door Friday 12 May, 2006
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
William Gallas has indicated that he will be leaving Chelsea for Milan this summer. “I’m interested in playing over there,” he said.
The Frenchman has been continually linked with the Rossoneri for months and he’s now admitted that his Chelsea career is coming to an end.
"The directors of Milan are interested in me, and I am interested in the idea of going to play over there,” he told the L’Equipe newspaper.
“I want to leave Chelsea,” continued the former Marseille man after playing over 200 games for the Blues. “My decision has been taken and is definitive.
"I want another challenge. I've been with Chelsea for five years. I want to experience another League.”
Gallas’ decision to ask for a Stamford Bridge exit has surprised many given the London club’s unbelievable spending power on the transfer market.
However, the versatile stopper insists that his decision to leave the Premiership has nothing to do with financial aspects.
Gallas, a target for Barcelona too, is thought to be unhappy with his use as a full-back this term given that he prefers to play centrally.
Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani also recently hinted at Gallas’ arrival. “All I will say is that French players adapt to the Italian game quickly,” he stated.
Gallas’ current Chelsea contract expires in June 2007.
"Chelsea don't want to let me go," added the player. "That's a big problem. We have to find a solution."

Would be an immense signing for Milan. Gallas and Nesta would be unbeatable like Terry and Billy.

Yes, and exactly the type of signing that I would expect from Milan to mend things up in the back to be honest.

Favalli
Anyone aware of the crosstown transfer of Giuseppe Favalli?
at 34, he's an utterly pointless addition to an ageing defence, but whisper is that he'll be use as makeweight for futher reinforcement in coming months...

Not a bad aquisition at all. Didn't cost anything and experience will be useful.
He's consistent at being decent.

I don't know about this one, but honestly what do you expect? Milan lose very litte by attaining him.
Inter will bring in a younger player, hopefully Grosso, with Maxwell backing him up.

It's not a bad signing to be honest.
He's an experience player that's cost them absolutely nothing.

It never hurts to add some experience and depth, especially when it's free. Favalli will provide a safety net for some of the others. But expect Milan to add some talent to the back four also, i.e., some combination of Gallas, Oddo, maybe even Marquez, who has indicated he wouldn't mind playing for the Rossoneri.

Good luck to him! He's worn the colors of the Rossoneri with pride and I'll be happy to see him at Benfica, where I hope he will become an important player.
