Default Scholes plans to leave in two years

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has revealed he plans to spend just two more seasons at Old Trafford.

Scholes, 33, helped United win the Premier League and Champions League last season but Sir Alex Ferguson is gradually grooming younger players like Brazil's Anderson to replace him.

The former England midfielder knows he is approaching the end of his glorious career with Ferguson's side and has already ear-marked a likely departure date.

"How long will I go on? I'd think two years at the most. I have one year left on my contract and hopefully I'll get another one but I suppose it all depends on how you're feeling and how you're playing," Scholes said on Thursday.

"At the moment I just think two years would be about right."

Scholes has never been fond of the spotlight that shines so brightly on United's superstars and he can't wait to step into the shadows.

"I can't say that I can't wait to finish but I am looking forward to finishing with everything that goes with it," he said.

"I suppose people are just very invasive and are always wanting to know what you're going to do.

"The only thing I will definitely miss is the football, not the general life of a footballer."

what a LEGEND... phenomenal footballer and an absolute class-act off the field. his loyalty to the club is tremendous (along with giggs and gaz), and might never be matched by another player. what an absolute legend....

he must go down as one of the greatest midfielders in the history of the league...

He grew up an Oldham supporter, and I wouldn't be surprised if he played a year or two there before walking away.

Scholes has been a great player for Man United. He is great to watch and Im sure Fergie will be looking to have him around for another couple of years. He seems to be a player who gets better and better.

A very influential player to United and no doubt a role model for the younger guys.

The ULTIMATE PROFESSIONAL. I don't think that there has been a better role model for kids from all walks of life than watching Paul Scholes play football and how he represented himself off the field for going on 17 years now.

He is technically brilliant, scores goals (although not as many now admittedly as in his former years), and he has been the best passer of a football in Europe for many years.

Paul Scholes' contribution to Manchester United's success in The Premiership and Europe is up there with SAF's. That is the biggest compliment I can pay Paul Scholes.

I'm glad he'll be around for another two years at least, but when he goes, I'll certainly miss the guy. He has been phenomenal for us.
