This is just a guess, but maybe Ronaldo just couldn't wait? Probably because of the "train only passes once" advice from Scolari or whatever.

Well I think that's the main point. Ferguson would be more understanding towards a player that was pretty much expendable than to his most prized asset.

Taking the conversation in a slightly different direction for the moment, we've all been keeping an eye on the Robinho situation as well. The latest rumors now have Chelsea supposedly tabling a 48m bid for Robinho. In an article today ( ESPNsoccernet - Europe - Robinho is worth more than £47.5m - Calderon) Calderon dismisses Chelsea's valuation as too low.
However, and this is what cracks me up, is the inference that Robinho is worth more than Ronaldo - here are the quotes from Calderon: "'I think that he [Robinho] is worth more than 60million [euros], there are few players like him."
"If he [Ronaldo] wants to go, then we will be alert as long as it's for a reasonable price."
Seriously, could Calderon be any more transparent? This basically translates to "Real Madrid players are worth more because they play here and despite the fact that they may not have done anything, we're going to tack on a whopping premium, but you should sell your players to us on the cheap because we're Real Madrid"
Calderon just needs to fuck off and die.

More from our friends at Marca who as we all know are so impartial:

Manchester United may finally be ready to talk about selling Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid, with owners the Glazer family deciding he can go (1309 BST, Marca). BBC Radio 5 Live spoke to Real president Ramon Calderon who denied the claim.

Boss: Ronaldo's staying put
Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he met with Cristiano Ronaldo to discuss the player's future and insists the winger will not be sold to Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old has been openly coveted by Real Madrid over the last few months with the player himself reported to be keen on a switch to the Bernabeu.
However, at a press conference in South Africa to mark the start of United's pre-season trip, the Reds' boss confirmed Ronaldo is going nowhere.
"The meeting went well - I think we both put across our points of view - where we stand and where the player stands," explained Sir Alex.
"I can say he'll be a Manchester United player next season. That's our stance - he won't be sold."
More to follow...

now this the fucking real deal, straight from our site.the boss expressed his view as did the players and to real deal wth it cunts

He'll be a United player next season, I think that's been gradually increasingly obvious for the last week or 2.
The question now is what's going to happen next summer

I think next summer, with only 2 years left on his contract, United know that they are not likely to be able to re-sign him, so Real Madrid will be sniffing around for a cut-price deal ...

Real Madrid will continue their efforts to unsettle Ronaldo in a bid to prise him away from Manchester United amid claims that the transfer has entered its "final stages" and could be completed in August. (Spanish newspaper Marca, 1454 BST).

And Marca / Real Madrid just won't let this die ... despite everything that's happened in the last week ...

I'm sure that the Glazers would want to sell him, but they have given SAF their word that they won't interfere, unlike Abramovich........
It's clear now that he is staying, so I just hope that he gets his head down and gets on with the job in hand. It's not as if he is at some small time club like the dippers winning fuck all from year to year.
He's at the Champions of Europe and Premiership Champions, which he helped us win. Now he should concentrate on helping us retain them.

Manchester United has told Cristiano Ronaldo there will be no new contract with a pay increase to match any Real Madrid offer, and that he must start displaying “commitment and loyalty.”
The winger has spent the summer making no secret of his desire to join the Spanish champion, but United chief executive David Gill said he believes that might have been a tactic to command a higher salary.
“Possibly, but not necessarily,” Gill said. “And if the figures bandied around that Real Madrid are talking about are true, we wouldn’t go anywhere near that. That would be lunacy.”
He said the 23-year-old Portuguese player, out until at least October after ankle surgery, must remain on the contract worth US$240,000 a week, which has almost four years remaining.
“With that, we believe, go some responsibilities and obligations,” Gill said. “There was an increased salary and we clearly feel there has to be some commitment and loyalty and he can’t just say, ‘I’ve entered into it, but I’ll leave a year down the line,’ especially after the season we’ve just had.”
The Red Devils won the English league title and the Champions League in May, but defender Rio Ferdinand said he believes the team’s feats have been overshadowed by Ronaldo, who contributed 42 goals last season.
“This summer, given the season we’ve just had, should have been a time to think about our achievements,” Ferdinand said. “In the end that became impossible because of the stuff going on with Cristiano.
“The players can’t wait to see him back. There won’t be any problems between Cristiano and the rest of the squad, because we have always stood by what Sir Alex Ferguson has said all along - Cristiano will be a United player next season.”

Slightly off topic, but more typical Marca bullshit:
Quote:
AC Milan deny receiving a 150 million euros (£120m) offer from Chelsea or any other club for Kaka. (AC Milan website, 1220 BST)
The Italian giants have revealed that Real Madrid are also interested in Brazilian playmaker Kaka. (Spanish newspaper Marca, 1220 BST)

How much time of your life have you used on Marca and RM now, Tattooed ?
Why use time on a bad paper? I don't use time and make comments on for example what "The Sun" writes.
Marca is not more bad than most of the other websites,- and papers around the world. I've read several wrong rumours in the english and international press aswell (also in the C.Ronaldo saga)
Sport papers needs to sell in preseason, so that's why they're creating rumours and different theories. Its actually not wrong by Marca to say that Madrid is interested in C.Ronaldo and Kaka (because they tecnically are)
There is no bid from Madrid. Its officially from the club Real Madrid that they not will damage the relationship with ManUtd or break any rules. The only one who is throwing fuel in the fireplace is C.Ronaldo himself. He will stay with United aswell...that's 95 % sure. But next preseason, maybe.

A similar amount of time to that which you've spent calling him out on it and "objectively" defending Marca and Real?

Most of what has been printed in the English press has been FROM Marca.

But it is wrong for them to say things like, "Ronaldo will be unveiled on 7 July" or "Ronaldo hates Ferguson" or "Ronaldo will refuse to have sex with anyone until he signs for Real & does it every which way with Calderon".
And it's wrong for them to say shit like that EVERY day.

Too late.
And as for breaking rules... Madrid haven't technically broken any rules. But to deny that Marca is Madrid's mouthpiece in the transfer market is bullshit. And if this were done in private (a la Ashley Cole), rather than in the press, it would be illegal, so maybe it's just more of exploitation of a loophole.

Yeah, look at the last ten pages in this thread and you can find hundreds of inlays from me whining or defending what Marca is writing.
That the english media (and people in here) is printing and comment things from Marca says it all.
Marca have a lot of nonsense and theories aswell (as I've wroten) and what's wrong and right is up to each person to say. You can see clear in Marca what is rumours, theories or real news.
Marca have linked about 20 players to Madrid this preaseason (as they do every preseason) and we all know that Real Madrid are able to sign the hottest players on the market because of they size and economy. That Marca is Madrid's mouthpiece or not is just a theorie both you and I NOT can prove. IF they are unsettling players as many believes...so what's the problem? Everyone wants to have loyal players in their club? So if Marca and Madrid is trying to unsettle Paul Scholes, and he wants to join Madrid after it...so whats the problem? We all want loyal players in our club. And I know that Scholes NEVER had went his nose against United and asked to leave.
Try to see the whole picture and comment that. Its C.Ronaldo himself who is throwing fuel in the fireplace all the time, and then papers like Marca go crazy (of course) because they got a lot of attention and public (as the sport papers want) and Ronaldo gives them ammo to shoot and shoot.
And personally I almost never read Marca. Just when they've something sensional news like when they've the whole frontpage in yellow letters like for example (Saviola will sign for Madrid next week)
The clue here, if Marca is just 100 % totally shit, why post and comment what they're writing? None of us comments articles from for example the Sun (well, maybe the clueless)
And that some subjective morons thinks that everything with Real Madrid and Marca is wrong and United, SIR Alex and Ronaldo not.... well, then they've a problem. Typically teenage MUtant fans. I'm not defending the paper at at, but just understand why they are writing some of the stuff they do, and everyone with brain should know why.
Marca is a "50-50 paper" and controversial. But to be honest they may have right in a lot of the rumours. C.Ronaldo has NOT went out and said he wants to stay at Old Trafford, but the other way around, that he wants to play for Real Madrid. More fuel to the papers.
My $2 is to ignore and avoid Marca and read/view officially statements and quotes. The big moralist SIR Alex should that too. He has several controversial episodes behind him too, from Jaap Stam to Owen Hargreaves. And now he's reported in to FA just weeks after he lost his case because Marca (the nonsense paper) had linked C.Ronaldo to Madrid because Ronaldo himself quoted that he wanted to go. Hehe, cheers Sir Alex

What the fuck is Tevez playing at?
If he wants his permanent transfer sped up pissing off Ferguson and the fans probably isn't the best way to do it.
