Now I want Ronny to stay but look at it this way.
You are a boyhood Manchester United fan and sign for Real Madrid. You win 2 La Ligas and the Champions League.
Manchester United want to buy you.
Would you stay or ask to leave ?
I would want to play for Manchester United.

I can understand that he wants to leave, but the way he has handled this situation is the most annoying thing. If you were to move would you make a big fuss about in the press? I wouldn't because you anger your club, so make it less likely that they will let you go and it just makes you look like a villain in the whole saga. I'm sure he values all the help SAF and Man United gave him in the beginning but right now the way he is depicted is as the ungrateful twat that is being rude to everyone who helped him get started.
He has every right to want to move but stop making yourself look like a martyr and talk with the club in private rather than making big bold statements in the paper instead.

You are 100% correct Dellas. You talk a lot of sense in all your posts.
We don't know for sure, but Ronny should have phoned SAF and told him that if Real Madrid make an offer, could he talk to them. When interviewed about it, he should just have said something like, "If Manchester United want to sell me, they sell me. If they don't want to sell me, I will stay and play my best for them and honour my contract. But it is entirely up to Manchester United."
But I understand his head being turned by his boyhood team.

The way I see it, it's pretty poor to come out and make a big fuss in the media, but I think that's the only way he's going to get a transfer. Manchester United are pretty adamant about keeping Ronaldo, and it's not as if he has a year left on his contract like Lampard. The only way Ronaldo and Madrid can push this transfer through is if they go to the media with statements that put pressure on United to let him go.
To be honest, I think if he really wants to get this thing done, pissing off his club is the best way to do it. Make the situation deteriorate to the point where he has no future there.
As for making himself look like a twat, most people already knew he was one before this.

If he really wanted to move away from United, a simple conversation in private with Gill and SAF would have been the way to go. Act like a professional, not a spoiled brat. "Listen boss, it's always been my dream to play for Real Madrid. I honestly feel as though I've done all I can do here at OT now that we've won the Champions League, and I'd like to explore a move to the Bernabeu. What do you think? I know I'm under contract for a few more years, but if there's any way we can get this done now, I'd really appreciate it." I can pretty much guarantee if he'd done it that way, he'd already be out the door because he would have been respectful and humble.
Twinkletoes' problem is that he believes in his own media hype. He would do well to learn from the likes of Scholes and Giggs in that respect. All he's done now is piss everyone off and create a ton of bad feelings.
Don't take this post to mean that I think Real Madrid are blameless. I still think Calderon and Schuster are arrogant, spoiled fuckwits who have also manipulated the situation. Their attitude (along with their lapdog, Blatter) is a cancer in world soccer - one that should be excised as rapidly as possible ...

That is probably the worst way to do it. At least before all this the Man Utd fans and board liked him...now what happens if he doesn't move??? They will boo him and make his time there hell, or at least they should. Ferguson said he would let Ronaldo rot on the bench/ stands rather than sell him and I wouldn't be surprised if he did with this shite attitude that Ronaldo has displayed. But quite frankly making the papers sir up shit for you is one thing but to call yourself a slave when you are one of the best played football players is just damn right foolish and ridiculous.
He could have handled the situation much better, for example like Tatooed Crusader has written above. Man Utd can be understanding...but now players and managers a like will not look at him the same. I mean so many players have come out and said honour you contract and Blatter is a moron and yet he persists, to such an extent that SAF won't even meet him...I see a massive problem between him and the Man Utd club next season, unless of course he formally apologises focuses on his football and then hopes to be transfered next oportune time.

I know it's the worst way to do it, but it seems that it's the only way that can really guarantee a transfer. I honestly don't think that Ferguson would have granted Ronaldo a transfer no matter how nice he asked for it. He's the most valuable asset on the squad at the moment and it would be foolish to let him go. I think that was probably going through Ronaldo's mind when he decided to go to the media. I'm sure that if Ferguson had given a hint that he would be understanding to this Madrid ambitions, I doubt Ronaldo would have made such a huge fuss because nobody wants to piss people off unless they really have to.
I'm not an expert on personalities or anything, but Ronaldo seems like the type of person that when he sees a target, he will get to it no matter the consequences. If he really wants to go to Madrid as badly as is being suggested, I don't think pissing a few people off is going to matter to him. Just like when he had Rooney sent off in the World Cup, he didn't care that he pissed off his Man Utd teammates and fans, he wanted to win and he was willing to do anything.
Anyways, I'd love to see Ronaldo rot in the reserves. I really do. That way, United won't have extra transfer funds to bring in new players and they will have a player that won't want to play for them. Win-win situation for Chelsea.

And now we have a new rumor to play with: Goal.com - Real Madrid - Robinho To Chelsea If Ronaldo Joins Madrid - enjoy yourselves
Quote:
|
Real Madrid forward Robinho will only move to Chelsea if Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Manchester United for the Bernabeu, according to the player‘s agent.
|
Hmmmm - I'm guessing Robinho has an inferiority complex when compared to Twinkletoes?

I don't understand what you mean exactly...can you elaborate? Are you saying you aren't mad at Ronaldo?
We are just discussing what Mr. Brightside said:
Quote:

I'm not doubting that Real are very dirty in their tactics...infact they are but the truth is Ronaldo, at least imo, that Ronaldo went about this transfer all wrong.
You can't use the media to send your club a message. Also I'm sure SAF is reasonable...a deal could have been struck in private that if Ronaldo does this, this and this and if he still wants to leave for Real after this time period he then can providing the transfer is decent. What would be so complicated in that? while now if he stays at Man Utd he might not be as liked as he once was.

Ronaldo should have taken a hint from the way Pique handled his transfer. Granted, Pique is nowhere near as big a star as Ronaldo, but he basically went to SAF, and asked for a transfer - preferably to Barcelona because that was his dream. Pique handled himself with class and respect. No need to use the media, no need to be coy. Just let the boss take care of you - because he respects you for being a man and treating him with dignity and respect.
And then you have Twinkletoes - had he done this right, he could have come off looking like the true golden child of world soccer. All he had to say was, "I am under contract with Manchester United. While it remains a dream of mine to play for Real Madrid, a club I have supported since I was a boy, I have an obligation to Manchester United, my teammates and the fans who have supported me over the last few years. I am flattered by Real Madrid's interest in me, however let me reiterate that I am under contract and I have a professional obligation to Manchester United. And that is all that I will say on the subject." Had he come out with a statement like that, or even better said nothing at all in public and done what Pique did, it's a pretty safe bet that United would have either sold him this summer or next - and there would have been no bad blood at all.
It's the difference between being a man, and being a brat.

100% agree with the above post....would just like to point out that Ronaldo "tried" to stay silent, but he couldn't bare not being in the media...

Pele insists Cristiano Ronaldo should forget about moving to Real Madrid and honour his Manchester United contract.
The Brazil legend also dismissed Fifa president Sepp Blatter's claim that there is "modern slavery" in football and Ronaldo should be free to move.
Pele, in Stoke for a charity match for the Gordon Banks Foundation, said: "You are a slave if you work without a contract or you don't get paid.
"If you have a contract then in any job you have to finish the contract."
Pele added: "I think that when he finishes his contract, then he should be free to go wherever he wants to go."
Ronaldo has four years left on his Old Trafford contract and is currently recovering from ankle surgery which will rule him out of the start of next season.
Former England goalkeeper Banks accused Cristiano Ronaldo of showing a lack of respect to Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Banks said he could not understand why Ronaldo, who scored 42 goals for United last season, would want to move away from Old Trafford to Real Madrid.
He said: "I can't understand why he said he felt he was being treated like a slave. If he has just signed a new contract then he should respect his manager and honour it. It's stupid.
"I don't understand what the problem is. He plays for a team that has just won the European Cup and the Premier League. He plays for his country. What more does he want?
"It's like anything in life. If a businessman signs a contract then he has to honour it. It' s no different than a professional footballer."
Banks was speaking at a press conference ahead of a charity match in his honour on Saturday when a Banks XI will take on a Pele XI at Stoke's Britannia Stadium.
The former England keeper pulled off arguably the best save in history from a Pele header at the 1970 World Cup in Mexico.
