So... New Right Back/Defender?
Having first missed out on Hutton, and now Bosingwa, who do you guys think we'll get as a new RB.
Considering it seems United made very few concrete attempts to actually try and sign Hutton and Bosingwa, it would make sense that Ferguson would have someone lined up for RB. The replacements for Neville eventually could just be from inside the club (Brown, Simpson or even Hargreaves), but I'd still think it's likely we'd get a new one.
And since last week Micah Richards was reportedly our #1 target, well... maybe he'll make the switch.
What do you lot think?

I wouldn't mind us chasing Vargas, the Catania wingback from Peru. I very much hope that we do get him, as he has been one of the revelations of this year's Serie A and far and away Catania's best player. He would be a first team candidate week in, week out. We need more quality defensive players who are good on the ball, who can handle the ball under pressure at the highest level.

Vargas is left footed though. Definitely a good player, but he would be wasted at rb.

There's always Lahm..
He seems closer and closer to a move out and although Rummenigge said Lahm will stay next season, I can see him leaving if we get a decent offer, I'd say 15m € would do it.

I thought Vargas was a CM/Winger.Hopefully we land him.Manchester is too big of a club imo for him.

micah richards single handedly defeated us at city earlier season and he is englands mountain in the future, so if he doesnt come to us it wont be surprise if he ends up at another top 4 sooner or later.
though being a city player does raise a big question mark if he is ready to make that big of a commitment and also is he brave enough to make the switch.he would be great addition to our back 4.

First Hutton, now Bosingwa. Actually quite pissed off by how the Bosingwa thing went.
Well we're linked with Richards (like a 2% chance of that happening imo, not that I'd be against it if the price was near reasonable), and Alves, who's also quite pricey. Considering SAF was wowed when Barca signed Abidal, saying £11m was "a lot for a fullback," I'm starting to think we're more likely to go for a much cheaper option. Someone playing in France or Holland, like an Evra-esque, possibly even Park-esque signing. Anyhow, I'll make my 3rd guess Lahm, although I think it's a shot in the dark.

He is a lb. Recently, since Zenga has taken over, he is being played at left mid.

Uli Hoeness, Bayern manager, has said that if Lahm is definately not changing his mind (he said he doesn't want to extend), Bayern will look to eventually sell him this summer, to Manchester United (he specified MU), for 15 million euros.

Well it seems that you might be getting Lahm...but tbh I think that Hargreaves would be a great replacement for Neville. I personally haven't been convinced when Brown plays at RB, but Hargreaves has actually impressed me. He can cross very well he and he has been pretty solid defensively. I know his presence might be missed from midfield but you have Anderson, Scholes and Carrick who can all fill in...

Micah Richards linked with United in the papers again today:
Manchester United are set to step up their bid to sign £20m-rated defender Micah Richards from local rivals Manchester City. (Daily Mail)
Although breaking gossip on the BBC today states:
Former Chelsea and Liverpool target Daniel Alves of Sevilla will be having talks with two big clubs this week, according to the player's agent.
Could we be one of them?

It's most proberly MIlan and Barce.
Richards id be amazed if he joined you.
Lahm is going to join Barce next year according to reports I've read with him agreeing tems.

I'm doubting we'l go for a RB at all now. Gaz is back, Brown signed a contract. he whole reason we wanted a RB in was because Neville was injured and Brown was leaving. Well neither is happening.
If we sign a RB, it'l be a young player, on the cheap, as backup/rotation for now. I think we're just as likely to go for a winger as a RB now.

im with unitedfan... doesnt look like united will be signing a rightback.
hargreaves is the future of that position when gaz retires (probably after next season??)
brown and simpson can also play there.
as i suggested in the rumours thread, its looking more and more like united will just be signing one player... splashing the cash on a top-class striker...
