Fergie wants just one player
Sir Alex Ferguson reckons Manchester United already have enough quality to dominate in England - but that will not stop him splashing the cash.
Ferguson's side host Arsenal on Sunday looking to extend their advantage over the Gunners to nine points and move six points clear of Chelsea, who host Wigan on Monday night.
The Red Devils' impressive season has been put down, by some, to their strength and depth among the squad.
The Scot brought in Owen Hargreaves, Nani, Anderson and Carlos Tevez last summer, with the quartet all playing a key part in United's charge to retain their Premier League crown.
And Ferguson has confirmed that he will be out to reinforce his side further when the transfer window reopens.
"I don't need to spend, but I will," he said. "I think there is an area where we are short and we can stock up on that a bit.
"It is not easy getting the best players here. But we have to because when you have a lot of quality in your squad you have to be absolutely correct on who you bring in.
"A player has a chance to come to a club like United and he would say 'that's my challenge to be in the team.'
"That's what good payers do. I don't think I will bring in as many as last season and if we buy players it will probably be young ones.
"Having a strong squad has helped Chelsea and us this season. Last season, we just didn't have enough.
"This year Tevez, Hargreaves, Nani and Anderson have been really fantastic for us.
"Those four players have made a big contribution to our season."
a right back and another striker? ????

Yeah RB and CF are priorities, especially depending on whether Brown stays or goes.
If he's really desperate to spend we could perhaps do with a spare LB and/or CB too (depending on what happens with Pique and Evans).
Really Lahm would have been ideal since he can play on either flank...

I think a right back is a must even if Brown stays. He pretty reliable defensively, but doesnt offer a great deal going forward.
Considering he gets alot of crossing oppunities alot of attacks go to waste.

Two (talented) midget full backs isn't the best idea maybe.

well i think we need 1 man in both positions.
we do need cover for our defense and we also do need another striker, a tall one too
brown stays or goes doenst change the fact we need another man.i think we are safe in the cb, just we need the either flanks covered.

well he seems to be very promising but he hasnt tasted the english league, so its a 50-50.dont get me wrong i want him asap after seeing his headers and what he can give for us on set pieces but it will be tough for him to break in just like that. but come next season i bet he will feature on some our games and sart to blend in wth the rest of the lads and in our system, carling cup will be the start of it i reckon.

i honestly think hargreaves is the RB for the future (5-7 years)... he has been brilliant when played on the right this season... i just dont think he sees himself there

If Rafael Silva and Fabio Silva did not exist, I would, without hesitation, welcome Lahm. A top quality and influential player, I agree, but a luxury as far as I am concerned.

With Brown's new contract, and Neville at last on the mend, the RB position doesn't look so bad. Neville, Brown and Hargreaves can all play there, which looks decent enough. There's Simpson too, although I think he needs more time.

Simpson would do. And we have Hargreaves to fill in if Wes gets injured. Obviously Gaz is almost finished.
I would spend money on a top striker. Berbatov, Benzema, or, wait for this.............................
THIERRY HENRY.
We could do worse.

My qualms over Simpson is that I'm not sure he'd come back from a loan spell at Ipswich ready to challenge for Europe. Players have done far better on loan spells to the Championship and failed too. I'm pretty worried that Pique is looking more and more likely to leave. Mind you, that would make your suggestion of Henry even more logical, with Barcelona his potential suitor.
I still think we could do with a fullback, in the interests of keeping our policy of continually strengthening going.

You certainly could do a lot worse, but having seen his interview on the BBC this week, i'd say there is no chance of landing him.
Berbatov on the other hand.....
On Pique, i found it interesting that Ferguson said he didnt play against Barca because he didnt want to throw him in against his old club in the Nou Camp. Makes me wonder whether he has that much of a future at United, as it isnt like he is a complete novice. Seems to me that he just doesnt fancy him (as a player).
