But for right back Glen Johnson would be a good buy. Still a good age must be about 22-23 ? Very good going forward and improving all the time defensively. And he will improve loads under Sir Alex. I think he has has a quality season for Pompey.

You need a BIG striker.

Ashley Young would be quality too. Someone who is very direct, pacey(counter attacks), excellent free kick taker(Vidic will thrive on his set plays) and will score a few.

Both 'young' and English.

Johnson isn't good enough at the highest level, he makes far too many mistakes. Pompey is his level right now.

In fairness Utd haven't needed a striker in the way I thought they might, but for me there's little doubt that a player of top quality that can hold up the play would really make them something else. My problem with Berbatov is that he isn't that productive and he's often caught napping, I think Utd could get better value elsewhere.

I don't like Brown at fullback, clumsy.

I think Utd really missed out on Mikel, he'd have been absolutely brilliant alongside Anderson one day, for me he's the type of player Utd should be on the lookout for. But in the likely event of not being able to find one, a midfielder that can find the back of the net would be a good addition to the squad.

I've said it many times. United should have purchased Hutton. He suits United perfectly.

As far as strikers go you have that big African lad (I forget his name). Will Saha be sold? If so surely you'll buy a striker. As hanuma said Berbatov isn't productive (and I argued the point at the start of this season that he is yet to prove he's worth the quoted money as he's only had a consistent spell of form for a few months, before and after that he has been patchy at best).

I saw that coming. But to be fair he doesnt make mistakes often. Brown makes mistakes at full back and no way as good as Johnson going forward.

Johnson didnt do well at Chelsea because under Jose full backs werent allowed to bomb forward. At Man Utd they welcome the likes of Evra to get forward at every oppotunity.

Hutton would of been class for Man Utd agree on that.

I've never seen him play a game where he doesn't. He's got half his brain missing. Fair point about Wes Beige, but the point is Utd are looking for an upgrade, not just a decent attacking option. Considering Johnson fancied himself a centreback for a while I hardly think Jose's tactics had anything to do with his lack of success.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he intends to buy a forward this summer.

Many feel United's squad is almost flawless - although they do appear to be a striker short with Louis Saha's future looking uncertain.

Ferguson can already boast the likes of Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney - but then there is little else in terms of an out-and-out striker with Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs the next best options.

Now Ferguson is scouring the world and assessing his options before making a move.

Michael Owen is the latest name to be linked, whilst Dimitar Berbatov, Klaas- Jan Huntelaar and Luis Fabiano are also said to be under consideration.

"We will buy," Ferguson confirmed.

"Along with Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney, we may need experience in one forward position, somebody to take over from Ryan Giggs eventually."

I don't think Owen would be a good buy (even at 7m) since he would not really add anything new to the forward line. Berbatov just does not seem to have the fire and drive to take him to the next level, not to mention that the price tag would probably involve a possible bidding war, and I don't think anyone wants another Ronaldinho saga. Peter Crouch? Thanks, but no thanks. Aston Villa are going to strongly resist any attempts to lure players away from Villa Park over the summer.

In all honesty, if Anelka is available at something resembling a reasonable price, he might be a decent option, however - would Chelsea really sell a player to United?

I couldnt agree more.
Huntelaar is proven, toped the league scoring in Holland and has the presence and speed United require in their team.
And another thing.... he can take a kick or two and gets back up fighting..... unlike certain other members of United who appear to be made of glass..... cough ......cough..... Saha..... cough ...... cough

I would be more than happy to see Huntelaar at UNited.
I also think Manucho looks promising, cracking record at the African Nations and knows how to hit the back of the net.

With both Manucho and Huntelaar in the squad it would give us incredible options up front with Rooney and Tevez.

On the other hand.... do you think SAF is looking at Ronaldo and wanting to mold him into a CF.... a bit like what Wenger did with Henry?? Interesting for sure.

He's already done that. The fact that he plays out wide every now and then means nothing. For the last two seasons Ronaldo has been about as close to playing the role Henry did for Arsenal as it's possible to get.

You don't lead the league in shots on goal unless you're getting the ball in shooting areas more than any other striker.

He almost looks like a modern day Jimmy Greaves.
