so much of the attack seemed to go straight up the middle.

we did that quite a lot last season up to the point where the lads realize it didnt work then they shake and rattle things a bit then we got the goals.in some games we were just brilliant down the flanks but not enough height at times.

i agree wth jlae that we dont have adequate wingers to fill in if ronaldo leaves.park is good but then the other side will be empty as nani isnt way ready for a full 90 weak in weak out.but im not in favor of the milan formation either. playing all 3 striker at the same time isnt fruitful wth us.rooney operates better when he is up front wth or wthout another strike partner while tevez all alone will just limit him on counters only.

yeah, i am not necessarily a fan of the milan formation either for united... but, i really think that tevez and rooney have the ingenuity/intelligence to be given a role to roam and make decisions on their own. both are creative and have mounds of talent, and i think each of them would work well off of berbatov... in that formation, i could see all 3 of them banging in goals.

also, in that formation, i think united could adapt it to be more defensive. tevez and rooney both work their tails off all day... so it wouldnt be ridiculous to suggest that a 3 striker formation could be defensive too...

Slight alteration to the xmas tree:
--------Carrick--Scholes-------
Whoever---Tevez----Rooney
------------Berbatov------------

Whoever being your choice of Hargreaves, Giggs, Park or Nani, and voila you have width. However, you would have to keep immensely fluid to make that work, with Rooney having to play all over the place from that position, rather than sticking himself on the left and helping the fullback. So against the big teams, unless Rooney is moved to the CF role, he'd be more or less completely negated in an attacking sense.

Ronaldo may well stay.

What's most probable is that it'l be 442, Tevez rotating with whoever the new striker is.

No more playing Rooney wide left, if he's played in his natural position behind a 9, he'll be in the running for World Player of the Year next season. Mark my words.
