No major changes which is a good thing.

At present we don't really need a continental manager, since the squad is already full of talented international players and we need to start blooding some of the youngsters, and who better to help in that than Phelan.

Hopefully Phelan has learned a thing or 2 from Quieroz, and the methods which SAF praised.

As for the scouting networks I'm sure they're still in place without Quieroz & I'd be surprised if he didn't advise more Portuguese players to join United if ever the opportunity arose.

Phelan and the Mule, Man Utd's new management team.

Let's see if they can integrate Berbatov and bring some new ideas to the table.

Phelan took the reigns in a game or two a couple of years ago, I remember. That was when we were critized for playing the Quieroz-inspire 433. Phelan reverted to 4411 going on 442 I believe. So we know his prefered system. Could be a very good appointment actually, as a few past United players these days are faring well in management, and Phelan and showed a lot of loyalty, staying with the club for ages as a player and as a coach.

Looks like Rene got close to it. He's probably the left hand man.

The continental link think is always useful, and it's something Phelan distinctly lacks. Rene used to manage at Brondby, so it'l be interesting to see if he's got a few links or ideas related to over there. But the appointment could see us indulging in youth players a lot more, and while we don't have a father figure for Portuguese speakers, we were never gonna get a like-for-like replacement in that sense.

Here's hoping Cantona's next in as coach

I'm unsure about this appointment.

Yes, Mickey's been about the club for 20-odd years, but he was a shit player and he's just been involved behind the scenes for a while.

Yes, I don't doubt SAF's eye for talent, but I'm just a bit disappointed that we didn't appoint someone with more experience at the top level.

I wanted Phil Brown, but even somebody like Mancini, Zola or even Alex McLeish.

Anyway, I wish Mickey well and hope he brings us success.
