Exactly, these things are done partially to keep football in perspective, though it's hard to remember sometimes there ARE actually some things that are more important than football (although they're few in number).
A little ceremony for the dead may seem trivial to some, but it's just a symbol of respect. If we were talking about someone like Hitler then fine, but to hold a grudge against people who died tragically 50 years ago because they played for your local rivals is low.
So well done City for agreeing to the tributes, and I hope it's a great occasion and a great game.

agreed wth both of you, even though we hate them and they hate us in equal but come the match day iboth parties will be at a stalemate on the rivalries for a few min.this not just uniteds loss but the whole of football community.
the fallen ones deserve this from our part the fans for bringing us joy and excitement every time they run in to that field.

Unfortunately i am a leeds fanatic and like everyone white hate man utd.
I will however say that my grandfather who sadly passed away a few years ago said Duncan Edwards would have been the greatest ever player had he lived.
Although our family comes from cornwall a lot are man utd fans (need to see a doctor i think) i try to get to leeds as much as possible. Ronaldo best player in the world at the moment and Man utd playing the best football respect.

seriously my man i pity leeds coz i still think they would have fared better in the epl if the had won the play-off final a few years back compared to the the other team wch won it.(i forgot who leeds met in the final of the play-off)
but maybe in the near future they will be back to spicy up the rivalries in epl

No unfortunately about it. Rivalry is one of the biggest aspects in football, up there with respect. If you've got both, that's all you want.

Papers: Boot change for Reds
Stars to ditch fancy boots.
MANCHESTER UNITED stars will ditch their fancy boots for next month’s derby with City as a tribute to the Munich air disaster victims. Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Rio Ferdinand have all asked their sponsors for black boots to mark the 50th anniversary of the tragedy. A United source said: “It was the players’ idea. They are aware of the significance of this game.”

came out in the sun today.the kits are retro, and it would weird if the wore some of the fancy modern boots, so i guess its a sensible thing that the boots also go retro in colors.

Wow. You must have had a state of the art television to have been watching a television network that did not yet exist broadcasting an event that you've just fucking imagined now. Prick.
Because of his massive unpopularity, no football matches apart from Leeds' held a minutes silence for Revie's passing. I think you may be confused with Matt Busby's death. Every game in the country held a minutes silence for the great man, and because of this perceived slight at Revie, Leeds fans unveiled an RIP Revie banner and chanted his name through the silence.
History lesson over, I'd like to get back to the issue at hand. I've been very impressed with the club. For once they seem to have got it right, and listened to the fans. The glass frontage at the Scoreboard End is a touch of class. Apart from the error in the text and the incredibly stupid and crass AIG logo in the corner. Apparently both are being amended after many complaints, so fair play to the club.
A simple list of the names of those who died would have been better than the words to the Calypso, but it's still a very nice touch.

FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER, variously described and derided as 'brave rebels', 'irrelevant outsiders' and 'a right bunch of dicks'. Living testament to that peculiarly Mancunian talent for gazing at the world in all it's wonder, thinking for a minute, and then muttering "Nah that's bollocks. This is how we'll do it..."

The mistake in the text I can forgive, but why on earth did anyone consider it acceptable to put AIG's logo on that banner in the first place?
I don't think the words to Calypso are right for the occasion either but as you say the sentiment is the important thing.

i think the main reason they put the words from the calypso is to get the feeling of the busby babes again in addition to remembering them.
i mean what better way to remember them at the same time pay respect to the departed heroes then that great song wch was for them too.
though i do agree on the aig thing.if they are there nike must have some thing to say, besides its better to be free of sponsorship

Reds answer tribute query
The club has issued the following statement regarding Old Trafford's East Stand tribute, which marks the 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster:
"The commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the Munich air crash has involved many different groups including the club's partners.
"Each group has chosen to pay tribute in its own way. It is entirely appropriate that a partner as closely involved with the club as AIG would want to remember that extraordinary team, cut down in its prime.
"Key figures were consulted before the project was agreed, including the Busby family and all were supportive of what is a stunning and poignant tribute."
United have also moved to correct a text error in the tribute, which has just been erected. The image covers the entire glass fronting of East Stand with a picture of the Babes' final line-up in Belgrade before the disaster, accompanied by the lyrics to the Manchester United Calypso.
A club spokesman told ManUtd.com: "The club is grateful for the assistance it has received. The incorrect panels have been removed and will be replaced as soon as possible."

the clubs statement about the tribute and the corrections, it seems every thing is done in order and wth the coo-operation of every one so maybe thats why the aig logo was there imo
talking about calyspo, does any one have the old version(i.e the original 1st ones if not mistaken the 62' version) of it in mp3??i have the new one but niot old.

CITY FANS CONCERNED ABOUT TRIBUTE
Manchester City's official supporters club fear some fans may try to ruin a minute's silence to commemorate the Munich air disaster at next month's derby against Manchester United.
The supporters group have written to United and the Premier League to request that a minute's applause be held instead prior to the match at Old Trafford on February 10.
However, United are thought not to consider a minute's applause as appropriate.
The game takes place four days after the 50th anniversary of the disaster, in which seven United players were killed.
Kevin Parker, the City supporters' club secretary, told the Daily Mail: "Although there is some friendly rivalry between supporters of the two clubs, there is also a great deal of hatred and there will be some City fans who will not want to go along with the recognition of the disaster.
"We plead with United to change the proposed minute's silence to applause.
"In this way, any idiot who does not share these views (of respect) will be drowned out rather than highlighted."

I can understand their concern am I'm still expecting the minutes silence to be disrupted by a few idiots but the club are right, a minutes applause is not appropriate.
And while we are at it I think the FA deciding not to hold a minutes silence ahead of their friendly against Switzerland (that game is actually on the 6th) it is it an unsurprisingly spineless decision from the FA but also a damning indictment of England fans. I'm pretty sure I large number wouldn't respect it and would quite happily disrespect the memory of 3 former England internationals just because they played for us.
