Who comes close to the lad just now? No one.
His goal run is just ridiculous.

Ronaldo Sweeps United Awards
Quote:
Cristiano Ronaldo was named Manchester United’s player of the year for the second year running, bringing his award tally this season to three…
The PFA Player of the Year has slammed an incredible 41 goals this term, helping United to their second straight Premier League crown in the process.
Apart from being named the club’s player of the year at a ceremony following their title-clinching 2-0 win at Wigan yesterday, the 23-year-old also picked up the goal of the year prize for his outstanding free-kick against Portsmouth in January, while 17-year-old striker Danny Welbeck was named young player of the year after an excellent season in the reserves.
Ronaldo praised the fans for their support throughout the season, and insisted he and his team-mates will do their utmost to make the season an unforgettable one by clinching the Champions League trophy later in the week.
Motivation
"The fans have been fantastic for me, not just me but every player, singing all the time," said the Portugal winger.
"This gives extra motivation to play better. The supporters help us all the time and I have to say thank you.
"I always try to help the team. If I score it's better for me, but I look all the time to play well for the team, to do something for the team. If the goals are coming, I feel very proud.
"I believe we are going to do everything to win that game (in Moscow)."
The Best
Ronaldo has improved year by year since his ₤12 million move from Sporting Clube de Portugal in 2003, and his efforts this season see him favourite to win the FIFA World Player of the Year award.
Sir Alex Ferguson hailed the United talisman’s work ethic and desire, and recalled the first time he and his Red Devils came up against Ronaldo in a summer friendly against Sporting five years ago.
"When we saw Cristiano against us that night in Lisbon, there was no way we were going to leave that stadium without him, there's absolutely no doubt about that," said the United boss.
"Since he's come he has taken on the challenge of improving in every training session. He practices all the time and I think he is the best in the world now."

Nonsense.
He had one season that was better than the worst season Kaka has ever had.
Kaka is levels above Ronaldo. Only Messi is close to Kaka.

Oh, and whatever sap renamed this thread should realise that Alan Shearer and Andy Cole both scored 34 goals in seperate seasons. So Ronaldo didn't equal any record.

That was back in the days of a 22 team premiership and a 42 game league season though.
That means Ronaldo equalled the record for a 38-game league season.

It's not a record. Simple as.
And i would say if you count look at the stats for shots taken Ronaldo prob took double what Shearer did that year. He took about 50 more than Torres this year. If Torres was a selfish prick and took 50 extra shots he'd have scored 40.

hahahahahahahahahahaha!!! isnt the entire idea behind a prolific striker to be somewhat selfish around the goal??? if i had one gripe about torres its that hes often not selfish enough, and youre seemingly hinting that its an advantage that hes not selfish???
the fact is: you must shoot to score... ronaldo has the killer instinct and the will to take risks that no one else on the planet has... not kaka, not messi, and not torres. all are brilliant, but ronaldo sets himself apart because he IS selfish and NEEDS to score. who cares if he took 50 more shots if hes scored more goals??!!!

There's a difference between shooting when you're in a good position and being selfish when others are in better positions.

Imagine how many more goals Manchester United would have scored if he had passed when he should have.

Frank Lampard had the most shots out of any player in Euro 2004 (at least up to the quarter-finals), and yet failed to score once.
It takes Adebayor at least 3 chances per game to score, so who cares if Ronaldo takes so many shots in a season? If he passed more when he should have, he'd have scored half the number of goals he did.
Desperate clutching at straws...

There's a limit to how long a thread name can be.
And yes it is a record, as russ stated.

What's more desperate is your argument that being wasteful is good.
Don't be foolish.

Yeah you're right, I'm sure it was just fluke that he managed to find the back of the net 41 times in a season, because it can't be his ability to get into goal-shooting positions or get his shots on target with power that get him the goals...
But before you misquote me, where did I say being wasteful is good?
What I said is if you're effective, it doesn't matter if you're wasteful. When you're scoring a goal a game it doesn't matter how many shots you're hitting, especially since a large number of them lead to corners or goals, either via rebounds or directly. So what if a few get ballooned into row Z.

The simple fact is that no one has scored more goals in a 38 game league season which means it is a record.
Yes Ronaldo does shoot a lot and probably should pass a bit more. However no one is perfect and you can't argue with his stats for this season>: they're exceptional.
