Bayern right now are hoping United are so desperate to sign Hargreaves that they will pay over the odds for him. However - with Bayern's season in tatters at the moment, United can afford to adopt a more patient approach. £12m for Hargreaves is far more reasonable - although we all thought we paid entirely too much for Carrick last summer, and he's really started to come good lately.

Again - more to come this summer ...

honestly, i dont know if i want hargreaves any longer... scholes and carrick are an ideal partnership in the system... and fletcher/oshea are more than capable as back-ups. i think if united could get him for 10million, they should do it... but for anything more, the signing is unnecessary... there are much higher priorities for the squad (especially a winger)

But no matter where we play, we'll be spending.
Rummenige said the club will spend about 50 million euro's on transfers (He said it in January).
So we were about to spend, playing or not in UC.
Hargreaves money is just additional money for the transfers, not money that we need for reinforcement.
However, I hardly doubt you'll get him for 12million pounds.

Soccer News » Hargreaves set to seal United move

Quote:
Bayern Munich officials have finally accepted a bid in the region of £15-16M from Manchester United for midfielder Owen Hargreaves.

Hargreaves made no secret of his desire to move to Old Trafford and Bayern have been compelled to let him leave for a price £5M lower than their evaluation.

Ridiculous price tbh, Hargreaves is a good player, but he isnt worth that kind of money. If Alex Ferguson thinks he is though he will pay it.

Arteta from Everton would be a good signing.

I guess that 16m pounds is around 20m € right ?

It's a great deal for Bayern, as we have 2 very promising DMs in Ottl and Furstner and also have Martin Demichelis who plays regularly as DM.

The money that Bayern will receive for this transfer, will help us get at least 2 more class players in.

15 million British pounds = 21.9690071 million Euro
16 million British pounds = 23.4336075 million Euro

Over 20 million euro's. Good deal, absolutely.

We should forget about Hargreaves if Bayern want more than £12-14M for him which even then is quite expensive.

There are players of similar/better ability available at a cheaper price (eg Jean II Makoun)

I think Fergie wants the midfielder to come into be english well at least playing for England. Hargreaves is type of midfielder we needed in the games against Arsenal and possibly could need him against Chelsea when Essien and Lampard are in there.

another reason why fergie is after him, with bayerns season like a roller coaster ride fergie might have some bargain with them, £14m seems very good with the way things are now.

£15m - hmmm ... are United paying the premium because he's English, or because they've been so public about the fact that they think he's a "must sign" player? In either case £15m is a hell of a lot better than £18m or £21m - but still overpriced IMO. That having been said, Hargreaves could have no better role model for life in the EPL than Paul Scholes - if he is to assume that mantle, that is ...

He's almost 29, we should be looking slightly more longterm, and Cahill is more attacking than what we're looking for.

I was thinking Cahill to eventually replace Scholesy.

Hargreaves close to United move

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Owen Hargreaves from Bayern Munich.

The Premiership champions will pay a basic £18million for the Canadian-born midfielder, plus additional sums based upon any trophies United win.

Bayern have had their worst season in recent memory, finishing in fourth place in the German Bundesliga. And they now need to bring in funds for a major squad overhaul.
