Default CL 1/2 finals: Manchester United v AC Milan - 1st leg

Its not until next Tuesday no but this game probably deserves a weeks build up plus I wanted to post this bit of news:

Quote:
Dida doubt for Rossoneri

AC Milan goalkeeper Dida is a doubt for next Tuesday's Champions League clash with United at Old Trafford.

The Brazil stopper suffered a recurrence of a shoulder injury playing against Messina in Sunday's 3-1 Serie A win.

"We're worried," Milan doctor Jean Pierre Meersseman told the Gazzetta dello Sport.

"We want to get a better understanding of the situation but we can't yet because Dida's shoulder is swollen."

Dida was kept out for three weeks in January with a similar problem.
Dida doubt for Rossoneri - Manchester United - Football - Sport - Manchester Evening News

I've no idea what Milan's 2nd choice keeper is like but I don't rate Dida anyway so I'm not going to get excited about the prospect of him missing the game.

Kalac is worse, Australia played him in one of the games in the World Cup because he's tall but he was terrible.

Dida is more competent than him even if he does make mistakes every now and then.

I'm really nervous about our own backline though, I'm surprised Cathcart hasn't been given a run out just for some experience if worse comes to worse.

Starting line up if players return from Injury i think be:

GK - VDS

DR - Gary Neville (he should be back according to fergie)
DC - Brown
DC - Rio (lets hope its not serious)
DL - Heinze/Evra (dont know which one is doing better atm but i prefer Evra)

MR - Ronaldo
MC - Carrick
MC - Scholes
ML - Giggs

FC - Smith (I would start him over Saha)
FC - Rooney

Milan's backup is also Storari...Although he hasn't played in a long time. This should be a great series...i'm obviously going for Milan...i hope Milan can get some retribution for the trashing on Roma

I dont get how you can back Milan, they playing defensive tactics, there another Italian team. I would never in any case back Chelsea if they were playing Milan.

I could never back another english club in europe, the same would go for all chelsea, liverpool and arsenal fans.

Neville has been out injured for over a month. There is no way he'll be match fit.

Other than that, that's the lineup I expect.

It's slightly outrageous, but I'm sort of hoping that we play Fletcher instead of Scholes...

Our best performance in the UCL in years came with Fletcher playing and not Scholes, I think we should keep the team as similar to that in the Roma 2nd leg as far as injuries allow.

I couldn't stand seeing Milan win the CL, especially since they shouldn't have been allowed to play in the CL.

Forza Utd!

Now, from an objective standpoint, Milan played very well defensively against Bayern. If they can replicate that backline performance, than this should be a very good game full of exciting counter-attacks, courtesty of players like C. Ronaldo and Kaka.

Exactly.

I hate the idea of Liverpool or Chelsea winning the CL but if we go out I'm not at all sure I'd want Milan to win; they shouldn't have been allowed to play in the CL this season ffs.

exactly, although if milan won it we wouldnt hear the end of it with all the italian fans on here

id hate it if chelsea won it because the longer they have to wait for it the better imo

id hate it if liverpool won it cos theyre always so smug about what they win and its bad enough with them having won 5 already.

united have to win it, otherwise it would be pretty damn awful.
