I was hoping to see Ben play this season.

Hope it's not serious.

"I opted to leave Wes Brown out but he'll be involved on Tuesday," said Sir Alex. However there was some bad news for another absentee from the 18 selected against Bolton.

"Hargreaves is feeling his knee again," revealed the manager.

Scholes out for 10 weeks

Paul Scholes has suffered medial ligament damage and will be out for approximately 10 weeks.

The news came at lunchtime on Wednesday, the day after Scholes had been stretchered off in United's 3-0 win over Aalborg BK in Denmark.

Scholes wasn't the only casualty. Wayne Rooney and right-back Rafael were also substituted for medical reasons during the match. But Scholes was the first injured and, it would seem, the most serious.

"There were a lot of plus points but we lost Paul Scholes," Sir Alex said after the final whistle.

"We had one or two other injuries," the boss added. "Young Rafael got injured and Rooney has an ankle problem. He felt a weakness in it when he went to receive a ball and we took him off straightaway.

"So there was maybe a cost to pay for the victory. Nonetheless we have four points now and it's where we want to be."

The three points in Aalborg were made safe by Dimitar Berbatov's first and second goals in a United shirt. Sir Alex was delighted to see the Bulgarian open his account so emphatically in only his fifth appearance.

"He scored two fantastic goals and that will help his confidence," said the manager.

"When you're transferred for that amount of money, you want your first goal quickly and he's got it. The second goal (volley from Ronaldo's cross) was a lovely goal."

Berbatov's second-half brace may have spared the blushes of his team-mates - Sir Alex's other complaint, aside from the injuries, was that "we missed a lot of chances."

crap!!.just when scholes was looking like scoring a goal and all he is out for another long period.

we lost him we at least need owen back fit spot for that 10 weeks to cover in.

Rooney doubt for Ewood
Wayne Rooney is doubtful for United’s trip to Blackburn on Saturday after injuring his ankle against Aalborg on Tuesday.

The Reds striker could miss this weekend’s league encounter after going over on his ankle during the second half of United's 3-0 win in Denmark.

However, the injury is not thought to be serious enough to rule him out of international duty next week.

A club spokesperson told ManUtd.com: “Wayne has an ankle injury and is considered doubtful for Saturday’s game against Blackburn, but he should recover in time for England’s forthcoming matches."

The 22-year-old may be forced to sit out United’s clash with Paul Ince’s Blackburn side, but he will join up with the rest of the England squad next week in preparation for their World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan on Saturday 11 October and Belarus on Wednesday 15 October.

partially bad and good news.if he is ok for england then its a good sign by the time he returns from it.

Hargreaves out for the season

Owen Hargreaves will miss the rest of the season following a successful operation on his right knee.

The midfielder will also undergo an operation on his left knee in a few weeks' time under the guidance of knee specialist Richard Steadman in Colorado.

A club spokesperson told ManUtd.com: "Owen has had surgery on his right knee and it went well.

"He will be undergoing an operation on his left knee in a few weeks and will be out for the rest of the season."

Hargreaves has endured a frustrating time at United since joining the club last summer.

A troublesome knee forced him to miss the start of the 2007/08 campaign but he played a prominent role in United's Double charge after Christmas.

However, the 27-year-old's tendonitis flared up again in pre-season and he has made only three appearances this term

wowww.....thats a blow...but then again if it can get us him back for next season wth out any major hiccups il say it was the right call.

Hargreaves was the midfielder that I really rated at Utd and for England he was quality a shame to see him out tbh because he really works hard for the team he plays for...but as a Chelsea fan I'm glad to see him not playing for you as he always is a threat.

Wes is out up to 5 weeks after an ankle surgery. That's a huge blow considering Gaz's form and the fact that I'm still far from sold on Rafael defensively.

damn.....1st choice is out....well rafael can get the job done, but we still have o'shea.i guess its time we play gaz wisely and not over use him.interchange between rafael and o'shea

rio is out as well it seems.but since we have evans, im not that bothered about central defense.
