Man Utd net Scholes injury boost

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes may be fit for the start of the Premier League season - despite a recent exploratory knee operation.

Scholes, 32, was injured during a pre-season game against FC Seoul but has been included in the squad to face Dunfermline in a friendly on Wednesday.

If he plays some part, Scholes could be a substitute against Reading on Sunday.

Manager Sir Alex Ferguson will not be at the East End Park run-out because his wife wants him to help move house.

Ferguson said: "I told Cathy that I had a match but she wasn't having any of that. She said it was a friendly and that I had to help her."

Another United side will travel to Belfast to play Glentoran on Wednesday.

Great news.

nice!!but bad news all ways tags along wth the good

Ronaldo injury fears allayed

The omission of Cristiano Ronaldo from United's squad to face Glentoran on Wednesday is merely a precautionary measure against a minor ankle injury.

The Portuguese winger had been expected to line up against the Glens at the Oval, but was conspicuous by his absence as the Reds flew to Belfast on Wednesday morning.

A Club spokesman told ManUtd.com: "Cristiano has been left out of tonight’s friendly against Glentoran with a slight ankle knock. He was left in Manchester as a precaution.

"He will train on Friday and is expected to be fit for Sunday’s game against Reading."

The news is a further boost to Sir Alex Ferguson, who was able to include knee injury victim Paul Scholes in the squad for Wednesday's other friendly - the Scott Thomson testimonial against Dunfermline, which is live on MUTV Online.

another minor up date on our abscentees.

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that new signings Nani, Anderson and Owen Hargreaves will feature in United’s squad to face Reading on Sunday.

The Reds begin their defence of the Premier League title against Steve Coppell’s Royals at Old Trafford, and all three new boys are available for selection. Paul Scholes is also fit and raring to go after emerging unscathed from his surprise midweek return against Dunfermline at East End Park.

"Nani and Anderson will be in the squad, but whether they start or not, I have my doubts," the boss told reporters. "They probably need a bit more training and a few games. But I’m putting them in the squad anyway. Paul Scholes came through the game on Wednesday and he will be available for Sunday, which is good news.

"Owen played 60 minutes against Dunfermline and he will definitely be in Sunday's squad. He probably needs another game, but we were very pleased with his contribution. He showed exactly what he'll bring to the team. There was great speed to his play and I was delighted with his contribution."

United’s attacking options will be further boosted in the near future, with news that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Louis Saha were back in full training this week. The boss said: "Louis and Ole started training with the first team this week, which is good news. Hopefully they're not too far away. It will be great to have them back because of the experience they bring to the front line."

Skipper Gary Neville, however, is still some way from a comeback, having damaged ankle ligaments against Bolton last March. "Gary Neville is making progress, but it’s pretty slow," added Sir Alex. "I don’t think he’ll be available for three weeks."

gary neville- wont be available for another 3 weeks.

park - no time line set, but possibly early jan

foster - same as park or possibly later.

saha- back in full training

ole - back in full training

Calf injury delays Neville return

Manchester United captain Gary Neville will be out of action for another two weeks because of a calf strain.

The 32-year-old England right-back missed the final two months of last season after undergoing ankle surgery.

But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said Neville faces another fortnight on the sidelines with his new injury problem.

Ferguson also hopes striker Wayne Rooney, 21, will return within "eight or nine weeks" after fracturing his left foot against Reading on 12 August.

Rooney is currently in plaster but Ferguson confirmed the injury does not appear to be as serious as the England star's previous two broken metatarsals and is optimistic about the player's recovery time.

Ferguson added: "It is only a hairline but, with any kind of fracture, you have to make sure it is dealt with properly.

"It is always difficult to be accurate because everyone is different. I think Wayne should be back playing in eight or nine weeks."

Neville's new injury setback is expected to rule him out of the Premier League fixtures against Tottenham on 26 August and Sunderland on 1 September.

He could also miss England's Euro 2008 qualifiers against Israel and Russia in September.

Ferguson confirmed: "It will be another couple of weeks. We are frustrated with the situation because his operation was fine.

"The surgeons did find a few little bits in there, which they had to repair as well, and which meant a longer recovery period but then Gary suffered a calf injury.

"That sometimes happens when you are trying to compensate after an operation."

It looks like Neville's legs are falling behind, he doesn't seem to have too long left tbh

Our injury list doesn't seem to be getting any better.

We're top of one table - the injury table.

PhysioRoom.com Injury League Table - Sports Injuries & Physiotherapy Shop

On that list they've missed off Solskjaer, also I have no idea why Saha is now out till 1st Sept.

Saha has to be back for spurs, we are sooo lacking in front power. We only just won the league last season without a striker at end of season and it showed against Milan, City and West Ham to an extent, how poor we are in front of goal without an out and out striker.

This is why im bit concerned now, we reallly need Saha back he is a big player for us. Not just the way he scores goals, but because he holds the ball up, he can run behind the defence and has loads of pace.

What is the betting we end up with more injuries after the midweek internationals?

I reckon Hargreaves may just be injured to get him out of the Germany game, he certainly didn't look injured...

Edwin's injury scare

Edwin van der Sar could miss tonight's international against Switzerland after damaging his foot while training with the Dutch national team.

The United goalkeeper was apparently involved in a clash with Liverpool striker Dirk Kuyt and required immediate treatment.

"Edwin had a pain in his foot and we will put some ice on it," Holland manager Marco van Bastern said last night.

"We will see what the reaction is, but if it is wrong then we will have to call up another goalkeeper."

Sir Alex will be hoping the injury isn't too serious and van der Sar will be fit enough to face Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday. If not, Tomasz Kuszczak will be handed his first start since May when he kept a clean sheet in the Reds' 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

With Ben Foster on the sidelines until early 2008, that scenario would also see 21-year-old Reserves stopper Tom Heaton drafted in to sit on the bench. Heaton is yet to make a first-team appearance for United.

shit hope its not serious.wth the fragile up front we have now, we certainly can afford to loose the concrete at the back...
